NAME: Chickie BREED: Beagle Mix BIRTHDAY: 2012 WEIGHT: 35lbs ADOPTION FEE: $200   Chickie came to us when her owners (thankfully) surrendered her to a VA shelter. They had been keeping her in a pen outside 24 hours a day, despite their claims that she has grass allergies. What really seemed to be happening to poor Chickie was a bad flea infestation, untreated, that left her with half of her hair missing. After months of treatment and medications, her skin is healthy but it appears her hair will never grow back. We give her Apoquel for itching but she is otherwise in good overall health.  &#226&#128&#139 Chickie has put her years of neglect behind her: she is happy in foster care and is a pretty easy girl. Although she is friendly and has never snapped or even growled at anyone, she is still a little head shy and would do best in a home without small children. She does very well with dogs of all sizes, but should be placed in a home without cats. What she really wants is a place where she can get a nice mix of her own space (with her favorite toy football to play with), and attention in the form of walks and snacks. Chickie is crate trained but will need a reminder course on house training. She would love a fenced yard to stretch her legs, sunbathe, and spend time with her forever family.December 10, 2025, 12:09 am

Story
Ovi is a sweet 7-year-old Beagle with a heart as big as his floppy ears! This handsome guy can be a little shy when meeting new people, but give him a few minutes (and maybe a gentle scratch behind the ears), and he’ll be your best friend in no time. Once he’s comfortable, Ovi loves attention and will proudly offer you his paw for some extra love.Don’t let his age fool you—Ovi still has plenty of pep in his step and is always ready for a new adventure. He was recently surrendered through no fault of his own, after a family member developed allergies. Ovi has lived peacefully with cats before, but he prefers to be the only dog in the home so he can soak up all the affection himself. If you are interested in meeting Ovi, please visit the shelter during our open hours; Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri 10a-12:30p & 2p-4p, Thurs 10a-12:30p & 2p-6:30p, and Saturday 9a-1p. Adoption application can be filled out and approved during your meet-and-greet. If you have another dog in the home, plan to bring them for a meet before you complete the adoption!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Bella is about 9 years old, but certainly does not act her age! She has been in a loving home for almost 8 years, and is now in need of a home in which the owner is home more often. Bella has been through extensive training, and knows many commands including sit, stay, down, wait, touch, come, place, and crate.  She is house-trained, crate trained, and great on a leash. She is up to date on vetting and presently has a clean bill of health. She is great with people and children. She has only been around a baby once, and seemed reserved and a bit scared of her. The reason Bella was returned to our rescue is because of her anxiety when left alone for long periods of time. Several medications have been tried, but she may still bark when left alone in her crate. Her foster has one medication which does help her for 2 to 3 hours before she gets anxious. Given her owner moved into a townhouse, and works full time, this will not work with neighbors potentially hearing her barking.  Presently, Bella stays with one foster, and another one helps if the present foster is gone for a long day and evening. If you are interested in either being her long term foster or adopter, the foster that has her is willing to provide you with support or free boarding for anytime it is needed. This foster lives in Eastern Baltimore County area and says she is just the perfect loving companion for someone who is home most of the time. Adoption Fee Covered + Free Training! Thanks to a generous supporter, this pet's adoption fee is fully covered — and OPH is including six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together! Meet Nora – The Pocket-Sized Cuddlebug with a Gentle Spirit Currently fostered in Silver Spring, MD With her beautiful chocolate and white coat, long silky ears, and soft eyes that speak volumes, Nora is the very picture of understated elegance. But don’t let her quiet arrival fool you - this sweet, shy girl is on a journey of transformation, and with the right person by her side, she’s bound to bloom. Personality & Energy - Timid but loving – Nora is quite shy at first, as well as cautious around new situations and strangers. Once she warms up - she bonds very quickly, shows how big her heart is, and follows you everywhere! - Calm demeanor – She prefers short gentle activity or lounging close to her person. - Affectionate and clingy – She bonds deeply and wants nothing more than to be by your side (or on your lap if you let her!). Home Life & Compatibility - House-trained – Nora is doing great with regularly scheduled potty breaks and has a natural preference to potty outside. She will need continued training, she is very treat-motivated and responds well to positive reinforcement. She is eager to please her people! - Crate-trained... sort of – Nora tolerates the crate but would prefer not to be left alone. She settles much better when she’s near her people. At first, she welcomes the crate as her safe place, but as she becomes more acclimated to her new home, the less she wants to be crated. - Lap guardian – She may growl softly if another dog tries to interrupt her snuggle time. She’s not aggressive, just gently possessive. - Dogs – Nora enjoys the company of other dogs of all sizes with a similar demeanor. She occasionally runs zoomies but spends most of her time lounging by her humans. - Cats and kids – Unknown, but Nora would likely do best in an easygoing, quieter home with adults. Training & Growth - Learning Off, Stay, No, and responding well. Nora gently jumps on her people for attention. - Wants to please and will thrive with calm guidance and positive reinforcement. Very treat-motivated! - Still discovering toys and play - her inner puppy came out a few weeks into her foster home. Ideal Home Nora dreams of a peaceful life where she can tag along with her person, lounge in sunspots, and be the loyal little shadow she was born to be. Transitions can be a scary time, and she will need a patient family with a calm household who will give her time to feel safe and come out of her shell. She would not do well in an apartment or urban setting, and she would benefit from a home with a secure fence. She would also benefit from someone who is home more often than not, as she prefers not to be alone, but mostly she just wants someone patient and gentle who will let her unfold at her own pace. Nora is the kind of dog who shows devotion in the purest way — by never leaving your side. Whether walking from room to room or settling down to rest, she follows faithfully, a constant shadow of love and loyalty. Nora is looking for her forever family! Is that with you? Click "apply for adoption" to get your family started! Included Veterinary Care: - Up to date on vaccinations for her age - Spayed - Microchipped - Heartworm preventative - Flea and tick preventative - Worm/parasite treatments

Story
Maeby is a sweet and thoughtful young dog who loves dogs, respects cats, and wants a calm home where she can feel safe. She gives soft kisses, plays gently with kids, and enjoys simple moments with her people. She is quiet in her crate at night and is happy to retreat there when too much in happening in her home. Energy and Personality Maeby loves being outside. She fetches, explores, and gathers all her toys onto her bed before she settles. She is smart and eager to learn. She warms up slowly with new people in the home, but once she trusts someone, she gives deep affection. Training and Behavior Maeby is great on a leash. She is trainable and rewards help her stay focused. She has shown possessiveness over her own food, so meals and treats should be supervised around people and animals. She nipped at a resident child during a treat puzzle moment, so she needs a calm home with fewer surprises where she can feel secure and understood. Social Life Maeby enjoys the company of dogs and has lived comfortably with cats. She plays well with friendly dogs and loves gentle routines. A male dog would be a great match for her. She loves affection but prefers to approach at her own pace. Quirks and Special Traits • Toy collector • Gentle kisses • Quiet sleeper • Smart problem solver • Loves fresh air and yard time • Sensitive heart that bonds deeply Best Home Fit • A woman or a calm household • Older kids • A fenced yard • Cats or a polite male dog • Someone who understands a sensitive dog and wants to help her grow Maeby is adorable, bright, and full of promise. With patience and a steady routine, she will open up and give her heart fully. She is ready for a home that will guide her, cheer her on, and enjoy the sweet dog she is becoming.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Macy Macy is a truly special girl with a heart that loves deeply. She came to us very pregnant and uncertain, and an X-ray showed she was carrying four puppies. From the moment they arrived, Macy showed the world what kind of dog she is — an exceptional mama. She dotes on her babies, plays with them, watches over them carefully, and makes sure they are always safe and loved. Macy has an intensity to her affection that is impossible to miss. She will look at you with big, open, soulful eyes — the kind that seem to ask for love while offering all of hers in return. There’s a tenderness about her that tells us she likely didn’t have an easy life, and being abandoned while pregnant only reinforces that. And yet… she still trusts. She still loves. She still opens her heart to people. That kind of resilience speaks volumes about Macy’s beautiful spirit. She is sweet, gentle, affectionate, and deeply loyal. Macy will thrive in a home where she can finally be someone’s priority — where her love can be returned in full. There is going to be a very lucky person or family who opens their heart and home to this remarkable girl. If Macy’s eyes — or her story — have caught your attention, she is waiting for you. Thank you for checking out our wonderful orphans.
