Story
AVALON Attributes Likes some other dogs Housetrained Crate trained Needs a fence High energy This gorgeous young gal with movie-star looks is Avalon! Avalon is a beautiful and energetic beagle mix girl who would make a great companion for an avid walker, hiker, runner, or active family. A home with a yard where she can burn off her puppy energy by romping and playing would be ideal. Playtime with other dogs is a serious business for Avalon, and she does best at playing with another confident dog. Avalon is a beagle/boxer/terrier mix, and we’re guessing that she’ll weigh in the neighborhood of 50 pounds once she’s an adult. Because of her size, she’ll need supervision around smaller children but should be fine with older ones. She’s cautious around strangers and may sometimes bark but will warm up to them if given time to get to know them. She is also nervous about noises and new situations. Avalon is currently training to help her gain confidence. Avalon’s foster mom says that she a very smart girl and is picking up obedience basics such as “sit,” “wait,” and “come,” and is working on improving her leash manners. Avalon rides well in the car and goes to doggy daycare two or three days a week, where she really seems to enjoy hanging out and playing with her friends there. Her foster mom says she’s very food motivated and “eats like a vacuum” (show us a beagle who doesn’t!), so if there are other dogs in the house, she should be fed separately from them. When it’s time to go to sleep, Avalon is equally happy to snuggle up in a dog bed or people's bed – she just wants to be comfy! She’s housetrained with the use of a doggy door. If you’re looking to liven up your days with a sweet, affectionate, energetic companion, Avalon may be the dog you’ve been looking for! NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI). Please read our Standards for Adoption and the information about beagles and puppies before you submit an adoption application. Remember that owning a puppy is a full-time commitment and you must have the time to commit to a dog that will be with you for 12-17 years. Beagle puppies are cute - but they are very challenging. Puppies may eat your apartment (no refund of security deposit); people who are gone for more than 5 hours at a time will need to make dog walker, neighbor, or doggie daycare arrangements. We discourage the adoption of puppies to families with children under the age of six, since puppies will chew toys, shoes, blankets, hands, feet, and other important parts of your child's anatomy.

SELENE Attributes Dog friendly Requires another dog Good in-car rides Good w/children over 4yo Playful Snuggly Requires a fence Working on housetraining High energy Selene is a 10-month-old beagle mix girl weighing 28 pounds. She is very energetic, playful, happy, and affectionate. Selene loves people and enjoys being with them as much as possible. Selene is young and athletic. She is good with other dogs and enjoys running and playing with canine friends. She loves stuffed toys, balls, bones, and sticks. Selene is smart and is quickly learning her new foster home. She is learning basic commands like Down and Sit but can still be jumpy and mouthy like a puppy when excited. While Selene enjoys plenty of activity, she also likes to relax and cuddle with her people. Selene is relatively quiet but is known to join other resident dogs in barking when she gets excited or hears a strange sound.  An ideal home for Selene is one with an active family committed to ensuring she receives the attention, exercise, and playtime she needs and the love and affection she deserves. She would also love a canine sibling and a fenced yard to run around.  Selene would be a great companion on outings with her new family, hiking, long walks, running, and car rides. She's overall a well-rounded young girl. NOTE: The dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI). Story
VELMA Attributes Adult-only home preferred Crate trained Dog friendly Good on car rides Low energy/chill/couch potato Playful Requires another dog Shy Snuggly Will potty on leash Working on housetraining Velma is a curious, timid little luv bug. She is very sweet but shy. She is scared of sudden movement and sudden noises. Velma enjoys her walks (working on leash manners) but also loves to snuggle on the couch. She can be given the run of the house for short periods but can get destructive if not crated when home alone. Velma really needs another dog for company and confidence. She loves to run in the yard with her foster sister and doesn't try to escape by digging or fence jumping. Velma has had a few accidents in the house. She has been getting good at using the doggy door. When her foster sister goes out she likes to follow her and will potty outside. She has even started going out on her own. She will do her best with a fenced yard. Also, because she is so skittish she will do best in a calm, adult home with minimal alone time. She really is most comfortable in a quiet environment. Velma really is the sweetest little girl. She is a very young nine years old and deserves to spend her days with a wonderful family. Story
GUNNER Attributes Good w/dogs Good w/cats Likes car rides Potties on leash Housetrained Medium energy Meet Gunner, a 2-year-old tri-color male beagle with an affectionate, outgoing personality and a medium energy level. He is a tripod after a car accident claimed his rear left leg in October 2024, but he hasn’t let this get in the way of his enthusiasm for life. He walks well on a leash and trots along quickly when he’s out and about – no dilly-dallying for Gunner! Gunner is keenly interested in his surroundings and enjoys watching the neighbors from his station on the couch. Beagles are known for singing the song of their people, but Gunner is vocal only when his foster mom returns home from an outing. He announces her arrival with a beautiful bark and chortle. Speaking of outings, Gunner enjoys car rides, and while he would prefer to ride shotgun, he rides nicely in the back seat. Gunner gets along quite well with the other dogs (male and female) in his foster home and ignores the cats. He has not been around children in his foster home. Gunner comes from a home environment and knows multiple commands: “sit,” “stay,” “come,” and “outside.” He also has excellent house manners – he doesn’t beg for food from the dinner table. He's been home alone for over six hours without having an accident. He enjoys snuggling on the couch with his foster mom and giving her lots of kisses. He doesn’t seem interested in the toys in the toy basket that his foster mom provides, but it could be that he would prefer his own toys – a shopping trip with his new family might be in order! If you’re looking for a cheerful, friendly addition to your family, Gunner just might be the beagle you’ve been looking for!
