**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Waylon. I'm about 5 years old and I weigh about 55 lbs (I'm quite hefty and need to be on a good diet to help get me to a healthy weight). I was picked up by the pound after my owner passed away and there was nobody else to care for me. I'm the sweetest boy! I absolutely love people. I've always been a house dog. I appear to be completely housebroken and although I don't particularly care for going into my crate here at the pound, I keep it spotless, even on the weekends. I am used to being the only dog so I'm not necessarily outright mean to other dogs, but I haven't been properly socialized, so I can be unsure of other dogs and not always have the best reactions. I have been good around neutral dogs that don't really want to be in my face or bother me. I would likely do best in a home without other dogs, or with calm dogs. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Story
Introducing Gambit - the name's not just a coincidence; it's a testament to my ability to shape my destiny. Just like my Marvel/X-Men namesake, I've overcome my past and now look forward to a brilliantly bright future. My journey started in a rather somber place - a lonely field next to a gas station. Thankfully, kind souls would drop by, leaving me food and their hopes for a better life. One day, a persistent and resourceful lady decided to play her "pawn" and orchestrated my escape from that grim existence. Since then, I've been living with her and her doggy (and human) family. But now, I'm eagerly searching for my own forever family. Let's talk quirks. I'm a cheerful guy, but I've got some personal space boundaries. I'm protective of my face, so a home with adults or older, dog-savvy kids is my ideal match. I'm also a bit of a goofball and adore the company of other dogs. Now, I might not instantly become your best buddy; I take time to trust and get comfortable in my surroundings. But trust me, the patience will be worth it. I'm brimming with love and loyalty, just waiting for the right family to share it with. Here's the good news - I'm house and crate trained, proving that, yes, young dogs can indeed learn new tricks. Oh, and there's more - I'm pretty chill around cats, though a gentle introduction is wise. And I've been curious and respectful around a human baby, so that's a plus. One thing to note, though, is that I've had some reservations around men. Despite two years together, I haven't quite warmed up to my human's fianc and have snapped at him a few times. So, it might be best if I find a home without men. During a short stay with Kathy, I was a little shy but kept to myself. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a dash of X-Men flair and you're ready to give me the chance I deserve, let's make it happen. I can't wait to meet you and start this exciting new chapter together! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)

Story
Ace (and his brother, Milo) are looking for forever homes having been surrendered after the death of their owner. Ace and Milo are currently residing at the Long Run Pet Hospital in Wheeling, WV.  Ace and Milo are 2-years old and are beagle/bulldog mixes, known as "Beabulls." The breed is known as active, playful and great companions and family dogs for active households. They are the quintessential beagle mix with happy personalities and attentive tails showing enthusiasm. Both dogs are very energetic, curious and do well on a leash. The love attention and return it with big smiles.  Ace is a sturdy boys that would make a great companion for someone or a family that will commit to not only giving him lots of playtime but also loves to snuggle and go for long walks for "all the sniffs!" He will benefit from  basic obedience classes to teach him good manners. He should do well with a dog of his size and playstyle but is far too energetic for cats and toddlers. Old, dog-savvy children may very well enjoy this beautiful boy as a snuggle buddy. Ace's soft, floppy ears and doggy smile are guaranteed to bring joy and laughter into your life. For more information or to meet Ace, please call the Long Run Pet Hospital at 304-232-2605.May 12, 2025, 12:57 pm

Story
Charming Gucci is a wonderful combination of youthful energy and boundless love --- for everyone. At about 7 months old, Gucci arrived at the Brooke County Animal Shelter in Beech Bottom, WV, as a stray so now he needs a family who will commit to loving him and providing him with a forever home. Gucci sports the Beagle charm and flowing tail and has a few other breeds thrown in to add to a perfect companion dog. As an older puppy, Gucci overflows with friendliness and his puppy energy. He will benefit from basic obedience classes which will help him learn manners to become a great family member. Gucci is good with dogs of his size and energy level but he would probably overwhelm most cats. He loves children and would do well with children who can handle his energy.  As Gucci is a courtesy post for the Brooke County Animal Shelter, please contact them at 304-394-0800 for more information or to arrange a meet and greet with his pup. April 27, 2025, 7:09 pm
