Cinnamon and Cocoa were my mom's dogs; she had to go into a nursing home and now these 11-year-olds need a loving home. They're bonded and need to stay together. Unfortunately they did not get along with my dog or cats, as they've never been with other animals, so they need someone with either no other pets or the patience to train them. They love to go for walks, snuggle, chew on toys and treats, and be your closest companions! Someone who can be home with them all day like a retiree or someone who works from home would be ideal. They get along with everyone from kids to the elderly and want nothing more than to be lap dogs. They sleep in their beds (often sharing a bed), but would be happy snoozing on your couch, if you let them. I absolutely cannot keep them, so if you're considering adopting a couple of happy, friendly little dogs, please consider giving these boys a home where they can live out their days.

Cocoa and Cinnamon are around 11 years old. My mother had to go into a nursing home and we need to rehome them. I've tried to keep them but they don't get along with my own elderly dog or my cats; it could be because they're confused about the change, or because they've never been around other animals. I currently have them in my basement, where they spend about 22 hours a day (they only come out for walks, which they love, and they do great on a leash). Obviously, this is no life for a dog! They've been having accidents, which again may be behavioral because of their life upheaval, so they've been wearing doggie diapers. The two need to stay together--they're always together, and will sleep in the same bed, and if I tie them out on nice days they'll sit right next to each other even when they have long leads for exploring. They are VERY affectionate and loving and want nothing more than to be lap dogs, like they were at my mom's. They're excellent watch dogs and good companions.

PEPPERONI is a sweet gentleman. He's a beagle/basset hound-type mixed breed boy with a beautiful chocolate/red coat. Pepperoni landed in a rural shelter after being hit by a car. The poor guy had a broken front leg that required treatment which the shelter was unable to provide. Fortunately the break is not severe and he's currently wearing a cast to allow the leg to heal up properly. Pepperoni has a lovely disposition, he adores people and treats. Pepperoni can go to a furever home, but he will be a foster until the leg is completely healed. If you'd like to meet Pepperoni, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhousrescue.org. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Pepperoni at our weekly adoption event, Saturday noon-2 at PetSmart Eastgate. All of our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoption fee covers the dog’s veterinary care, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchip, deworming, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention and any other needed veterinary care. A deposit is required to take a dog home for a trial period. The deposit will be applied to the dog’s final adoption fee.
