**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Waylon. I'm about 5 years old and I weigh about 55 lbs (I'm quite hefty and need to be on a good diet to help get me to a healthy weight). I was picked up by the pound after my owner passed away and there was nobody else to care for me. I'm the sweetest boy! I absolutely love people. I've always been a house dog. I appear to be completely housebroken and although I don't particularly care for going into my crate here at the pound, I keep it spotless, even on the weekends. I am used to being the only dog so I'm not necessarily outright mean to other dogs, but I haven't been properly socialized, so I can be unsure of other dogs and not always have the best reactions. I have been good around neutral dogs that don't really want to be in my face or bother me. I would likely do best in a home without other dogs, or with calm dogs. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Please contact Jamie (jamie@pawsandprayers.org) for more information about this pet.  Meet Puppy Evo! He is an 8 month old JRT/Beagle mix. He currently weighs 20lbs and given his age, will grow some more! He is a happy go lucky pup. He is new to our rescue so we are still learning about him. As he is young, he’s learning leash manners and crate training. His new home will need to be open to potty training. Evo will be ready for his new home on 4/28. His adoption fee is $350. All Paws and Prayers animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (age appropriate) and are given monthly flea/heartworm prevention.  Adoption fees also include the pet's spay/neuter and microchipping.  The first step in the adoption process is to complete a no-obligation adoption application at www.pawsandprayers.org.     April 18, 2025, 11:15 am

Story
I'm going to start this profile by saying Sweet 8 month old Clover is truly looking for her Lucky Four Leaf "Clover" Family. Her life has been a heartbreaking one so far to say the least, but she's now safe in a foster home that loves Clover very much and she has been promised her life will be a happier one now. (She was found in a Dumpster by animal control in Cleveland, extremely thin, full of worms, and lethargic) She was listed as a beagle mix from the shelter, but I honestly don't know what she's a mix of.  Clover weighs approx. 35lbs, and is a sweet sweet girl that keeps her little tail super tucked between her legs when she meets new people. She is doing her best to keep her crate clean, and can be a bit vocal when she's in there. She's learning about potty breaks and is taken out frequently during the day to "Go Potty". I learned today she is sadly, terrified of brooms and your guess is as good as mine why.  So I am looking for a home for Clover that is so wonderful, it'll be like she HIT THE JACKPOT!! A home with the most love and patience for a sweet rescue dog.  Please fill out an application if you would like to be considered to adopt Clover. Please email me at sswank1@gmail.com after the application has been completed, and if you have any questions about her. Her adoption fee is $350.00, and includes her spay, up to date vaccinations, heartworm, flea and tick preventative, microchip, and ENDLESS LOVE FROM SWEET CLOVER!!! Here's her  video!! https://youtube.com/shorts/GqgKChmawiM?si=YKPS3iIplvbwQ9MsMarch 24, 2025, 9:11 pm

Story
Meet Grace, aka Little Miss Sassy Pants. Born 12/27/24, Grace is a half-beagle FIRECRACKER with a twinkle in her eye and zero chill when it comes to bringing the fun. She’s very playful, social, and 100% mischief in motion—if she’s quiet, she’s plotting. Between sneak-attacks on her siblings, toy heists... and a bit of destruction, she still finds time to dish out kisses like a pro. Grace is ready to bring the chaos and the cuddles—are you ready for her? Her mom is a small beagle (18 lbs), and  puppy growth charts estimate her adult size at a perfect 'small-medium' range of 25-ish lbs right now but are NOT highly reliable due to rapid growth this young and an unknown father.  Our best guess based on how the litter is looking right now is that their other have might include some doxie/dachshund (but it is complete guesswork on our part).    Please remember pups looks and personalities can change QUITE a bit as they grow up. They lose their puppy coats and growth estimates are notoriously unreliable when dealing with mixed breeds.   Also note that puppies are LOTS of work. They cannot be alone for 8 hours a day, they chew EVERYTHING, they are physically not capable of 'holding' it for long periods until they mature and they're top skill is usually finding trouble no matter how well you think you've puppy-proofed your home. Given Grace's personality we think she'd do well with a social, active family who has the time and patience to work with a puppy. Since Grace is half beagle, she is probably not the best fit for a shared wall. She could be very vocal as an adult.    Grace's adoption fee is $400 and includes spay, microchip, all age appropriate vaccines and prevention (flea, tick, heartworm).   The first step in the adoption process is to  fill out an adoption application  today at our website  www.pawsandprayers.org  .    ***IMPORTANT:  Inquiries submitted through Petfinder or other third-party websites DO NOT submit as applications in our database, please complete an appliation on our website. Also, current/previous  veterinarians NEED PERMISSION to speak with us ; if we are not able to speak with them, we cannot complete the review of your application.***April 22, 2025, 2:50 pm

Story
Meet Valor - a whole lotta love in a little fuzzy package! Born 12/27/24, this half-beagle lovebug is ready to leap headfirst into his forever home—tail wagging, ears flopping, and nose twitching with excitement! Valor is the brave little leader of his litter, always the first to check out new toys, new smells, and new adventures. Whether he’s charging into a game of puppy tag, exploring his yard or stopping by for a quick kiss and a cuddle, this boy is all heart…and all adorable. His fuzzy little backside (yes, we’re talking about that baby-fat booty) just adds to his charm! Don’t let his confident streak fool you—Valor is super affectionate and never misses a chance for snuggles, or climbing into your lap like he owns it. Valor's mom is a small beagle (18 lbs),  puppy growth charts estimate his adult size at a perfect 'medium' range of 30-ish lbs right now but are NOT highly reliable due to rapid growth this young and an unknown father. Our best guess based on how the litter is looking right now is that their other half might include some doxie/dachshund (but it is complete guesswork on our part).    Please remember pups looks and personalities can change quite a bit as they grow up.
