You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.A VERY SPECIAL NOTE TO YOU FROM MAY'S FOSTER;  May is a sweet 5 yr old, 30 lb beagle.  She loves to be by your side: whether sitting with you when you read or work on the computer, hang out with you when doing things around the house or yard, and taking car rides.  I recently took a long 1 day trip and she was a great passenger and companion for the day. She is very good with recall. May loves to play fetch and walks well on a leash. Since she loves to play fetch and run, a fenced yard would be nice for her. May is crate trained and good with house breaking. She has been dog selective so she may be best as an only dog. She he loves people so much and would be very happy if someone works from home or is retired.  I think she thinks she is a little person. If you would like a loyal companion and someone to love, May may be the girl for you. May is a girl on the smaller side of medium and filled with beagle genes.  She has many of the wonderful beagle traits which have made the breed so very popular for decades. You will enjoy taking her for walks and watching her play in your backyard, ears flapping in the breeze as she chases that stick. She is the type of dog who likes to please her people and she will try hard to do what you want her to because that is who she is. She has all her shots and is hoping someone will come for her so she can have her own family to love once again. She says to ask you to bring toys when you come to see her! NOTE: As May is a hound, we are hoping for a home with a physical fence so she and her inquisitive nose will be safe. Beagles LOVE to follow their noses. If you are interested in May, please fill out an application at: https://reachoutrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4588    Or contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com   *** Click here to sponsor this dog! ***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 3, 2024, 5:02 pm

Story
NAME: Chickie BREED: Beagle Mix BIRTHDAY: 2012 WEIGHT: 35lbs ADOPTION FEE: $200   Chickie came to us when her owners (thankfully) surrendered her to a VA shelter. They had been keeping her in a pen outside 24 hours a day, despite their claims that she has grass allergies. What really seemed to be happening to poor Chickie was a bad flea infestation, untreated, that left her with half of her hair missing. After months of treatment and medications, her skin is healthy but it appears her hair will never grow back. We give her Apoquel for itching but she is otherwise in good overall health.  &#226&#128&#139 Chickie has put her years of neglect behind her: she is happy in foster care and is a pretty easy girl. Although she is friendly and has never snapped or even growled at anyone, she is still a little head shy and would do best in a home without small children. She does very well with dogs of all sizes, but should be placed in a home without cats. What she really wants is a place where she can get a nice mix of her own space (with her favorite toy football to play with), and attention in the form of walks and snacks. Chickie is crate trained but will need a reminder course on house training. She would love a fenced yard to stretch her legs, sunbathe, and spend time with her forever family.October 28, 2024, 10:44 am

Story
NAME: Barley BREED: Beagle BIRTHDAY: 2012 WEIGHT: 25lbs ADOPTION FEE: $200 &#226&#128&#139 Barley is not your typical beagle, and it's easy to understand why. After spending the first several years of his life in some sort of hunting/breeding facility, living with almost 100 other beagles, Barley was rescued and was starting to be rehabilitated. He was undersocialized but friendly enough for adoption, and made some progress in learning to trust people. However, when his adopter could no longer keep him, he was bounced to another home and lived there for years receiving little help for his anxiety and no vetting at all. By the time he came to us, Barley was living in constant pain and discomfort thanks to a mouth of rotted and infected teeth. All the years of living this way have surely set him back as he's worked to be the happy-go-lucky beagle he was born to be. &#226&#128&#139 We got Barley to our vet and he immediately had oral surgery: sadly, his mouth was in such bad shape that he had to save a second surgery a few weeks later, to finish what could not be completed the first time. Our vet said it's the worst mouth she's ever seen, which is really saying a lot considering some of the messes we've brought to her over the years! Some of the holes in Barley's gums were so large from years of rot that they had to be re-closed during the second surgery. He may never fully recover from this neglect, and will need to be on a soft food or extra small kibble diet for the rest of his life: no more chewing for this poor beagle. Barley was also started on meds for Lyme disease and Ehrlichia, and was vaccinated and microchipped. Thankfully he was neutered prior to coming to us, and his blood work didn't show any other underlying issues. &#226&#128&#139 In foster care, Barley has been independent and rarely seeks affection or attention. When he does come over for pets he loves having his ears rubbed, his back scratched, and his head gently kissed. He greets new people when they come through the door, then goes back to his bed (perhaps to avoid all the other dogs swarming the exciting visitors). He rides well in the car and likes going for walks, and would absolutely benefit from more one-on-one attention. Barley is very safe with cats, and has done well with most of the dogs here. He seems to prefer females but that might be because we've got a couple jerky boys, so polite and non-confrontational dogs would likely be a good fit for him. Because of his history we are not recommending a home with small children, but older kids should be fine as long as they're not looking for a rough and rowdy playmate. Barley loves to lay in the sun, as you can see from his pictures (he's hard to photograph, so we apologize for the lack of pics showcasing his handsomeness), so a fenced yard would be ideal. Barley is house trained and is not very vocal for a beagle. He's actually a super easy foster here, but he would absolutely benefit from a real home and a family who can make up for all he's been missing out on all these years. Barley might technically be a "project" dog, but it will be easy to be a HERO for this easy boy! October 28, 2024, 10:44 am

I enjoy hugs, belly rubs, plush squeaky toys, walking around the neighborhood, hiking, cuddling on the sofa next to you, playing and yummy treats. Qualities:- Housetrained- Working on crate training (I'm not a fan of the crate but I will go in for a treat.)- I know basic commands (Click here to see me in training)- Human friendly, but please no kids in adoptive home - Would be best as only dog in adoptive home- Okay leash walking (I am curious about my surroundings, may pull a bit when excited)- Loving , gentle, and affectionateI am a Southern belle from the state of South Carolina. I arrived to OPH with my brother. We were sadly surrendered by our owner after our house burned down. OPH rescued us and gave us a second chance to find our forever home. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This is a courtesy posting. Please call 410-627-6563 for information about adopting Razzle.  Razzle is a gorgeous, elegant American Foxhound. She is a very sweet girl who loves to play but will happily settle in to watch TV and nap on the couch with her person. She likes to play with other submissive dogs (40 pounds or heavier) but can be protective of her people with other dogs. Razzle would be fine as an only dog as long as she gets plenty of exercise. She also gets along with cats. She is not destructive and is house broken. For Razzle to thrive, she needs a stable, quiet home. In return she will shower you with love and devotion. Razzle requires a yard with a physical fence where she can run and play safely. She needs a home without children as she gets anxious with all the activity that comes with children and their friends. Razzle’s adopter must have previous dog experience as an adult. **Please note: We are only able to adopt within 30-40 miles of Baltimore, MD.
