Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Shortcake (GA) is a female Basset/Hound mix estimated to be 6 years old at the time of intake in July 2024. Shortcake is up to date on vaccines and is microchipped. She will be spayed prior to joining her forever home unless there is a medical reason why it has not yet been completed (in which case RDR NYC will work with the adopter to ensure this is done at the appropriate time). Shortcake is good with people, other dogs and even cats. We don't know what Shortcake's life was like that landed her in a shelter suffering with some untreated medical issues. Fortunately, Shortcake was pulled out of the shelter so she could receive the medical care she required and when we received a request to provide that medical care to Shortcake, of course we said YES! Shortcake's medical issues have been treated and this adorable girl is ready to start her life over with her forever family. Shortcake is sweet (of course!). She is quite a chunky girl and is on a weight loss regimen. Her joints are a bit squeaky, but she's on an arthritis supplement as well. Shortcake is literally one of the easiest going dogs ever and even a little person could walk her easily! Shortcake is on a special food as she cannot have chicken. If you would like some Shortcake in your household, please apply online to adopt Shortcake (GA) at www.rescuedogsrocknyc.org.  Given technical constraints on this database, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however, provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 13, 2025, 12:47 am

Story
Hi, I’m Dakota! I’m an 8-month-old, 45-pound bundle of fun and energy. I am a Bassett/Spaniel mix who absolutely loves people—especially kids! Playing in the yard is my favorite thing, and after a long day of running around, I like to settle in with a good bone to chew on. I’m almost fully potty trained, so I’m well on my way to being the perfect house companion. I like having my own space, but I’ll always keep you in sight and stay close by. One of my favorite things is getting new toys, especially for a good game of tug-of-war—nothing makes me happier than a fun challenge! Plus, have you seen my adorable spots? I promise I’ll be the cutest pup in your home. If you’re looking for a playful, independent, and loyal companion, I think we’d make a great match! Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a dog from A New Chance Animal Rescue (https://anewchancear.org). We are a 501c3, tax deductible organization. ANCAR is a foster-based rescue, and we adopt within a 90 mile radius of Bedford Hills, NY. You will find the adoption application here: (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-application/). All fields on the application must be completed. Please read about the adoption process (https://www.anewchancear.org/adopt/our-adoption-process/) so you'll know what to expect when you submit. Our dogs are in foster care and we do NOT have a shelter or boarding facility. AN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL AND APPROVED BEFORE A DOG CAN BE MET. This is a firm policy. Our busy volunteers are not able to respond to questions about the dog or dog meeting requests in the absence of an application. We know these dogs very well because they are in foster care. Please read the profiles of the dog(s) you are interested in prior to submitting an application. If there are specific requirements stated (ie: Fenced Yard or Canine Friend Required) these are included because they are vital to the happiness, health, safety and adoption success of that dog. We are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes (https://www.anewchancear.org/foster/faqs/) and resources for. We provide medical care including vaccinations, testing, deworming, spaying/neutering and microchipping before transporting our dogs. We provide all supplies, preventatives and any follow up vet care necessary while they are in foster care. These costs are high and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources. If you can find room in your heart to help us, with any amount, we are truly grateful (https://www.anewchancear.org/help/donate/). We are a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. It is only through the kindness of supporters like you that we are 'changing lives...one tail at a time' by providing our dogs with 'A New Chance.' (https://anewchancear.org) Thanks so much.

Story
He’s Popeye the sailor man! However he and his sister haven’t had the chance to do much sailing yet. But they have both proven themselves to be strong and courageous since they were found running through the streets together and scavenging for survival. They were found by a good samaritan who called the local animal control, but since there’s not a shelter, they discovered that they would have been euthanized immediately. We couldn’t let that happen, so we took them in. Popeye has been to the vet for his initial vetting and vaccinations, and the vet believes he is just 4 months old. He weighs 18 pounds. He is currently in Texas with a foster, but will be transported to the NJ area once adopted.
