Story
Caddie is the happiest little puppy with the sweetest personality, but you’d never guess the dark secret she was hiding when she arrived to us skin and bones.  When she first reached her foster home, this poor girl regurgitated every single meal. At first it looked like a simple stomach bug… but further testing revealed the real issue: megaesophagus - a dilated, inflamed esophagus that makes food come right back up. Scary? It sounds it. But here’s the truth: for Caddie, thankfully it’s totally manageable. No surgery. No complicated meds. Just a simple updated feeding routine, and she’s already thriving on it!  She eats blended meals from a raised bowl, takes one easy liquid med, then relaxes in her crate to let her food settle (usually while sleeping ). That’s literally it. What breaks our hearts is imagining how long she struggled before anyone noticed. She’s still skinny, but she’s finally gaining weight, and her confidence is blossoming every single day in her busy foster home . Caddie is truly one of a kind! She’s friendly with everyone (people, kids, cats, dogs), gentle, submissive, potty trained, belly-rub obsessed, routine-loving, and just 28 lbs with ears that absolutely deserve their own fan club.  Yes, she needs a little extra care. But she gives back so much extra joy back and she serves the chance to have her very own forever home. Caddie is easy to manage, easy to love, and ready for the person or family who sees how special she really is.  ##2581072##

Story
Hank - 2 years, 62lbs, Beagle/Basset Mix, Neutered  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Our Team Says: "He's a big ladies man!! Loves ladies - more nervous around men - would be good for a couple but might have a hard time with a single man." Thier Foster Parent Says: "Hank is a very shy/nervous boy but once he warms up to you, he will become your bestfriend and a major cuddle bug. He loves to sprawl on the couch and play with his toys or chew on his bone. When he's not playing, he'll come right up to you for some snuggles (he's a great nap partner). Though he gets spooked by people outside, he is very calm indoors and most loud noises don't phase him (minus the vacuum). He is also the most quiet, gentle, and sweet soul. He may not know many commands, but he does understand the important ones - "no" and "drop it". He is smart and a fast learner so I'm sure he'll know plenty more in no time." Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  ENERGY LEVELMedium – Needs a daily 60-90 minute morning walk or window of quick paced exercise in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant opportunities to socialize outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  TOLERANCE TO CITYAdjusting to the city – Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well in quiet areas and probably just needs more time to adjust (may be a puppy or a brand new rescue). Would prefer a home in a calmer part of the city or the suburbs. POTTY TRAININGSort of -- On the way and learning! May be using wee pads (is a puppy or a brand new rescue)  COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERSWallflower – Very shy with new people and takes a while to warm up. Afraid when unfamiliar people try to say hi on the street, hides or shrinks back when new people visit the home.  BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)Maybe for age 12 and up – Is either big and energetic (okay with kids big enough not to get knocked down) or a little skittish (could be comfortable with older children that can be extra gentle)  SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSStill working on it – Either retreats from other dogs or barks at them/leash reactive. Needs more socialization training or may just be a dog that prefers human company  RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.)Not sure – Wants to chase squirrels and birds so may not be a good match for a home with cats, rabbits, etc.  MOUTHY BEHAVIORWorking on it – Is respectful of hands, feet, etc. but likes to chew on things they’re not supposed to like shoes, furniture, etc.  SEPARATION ANXIETY (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.)Adjusting – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone otherwise.  LEASH MANNERSGetting the hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in their life but figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction.  CUDDLE BUG LEVELMedium – Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bed  JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLOCalm Greetings – Doesn’t jump up on people or dogs. Always all four on the floor.  CRATE TRAININGYep/mostly – Seems comfortable in the crate, may whine a little at first but settles pretty quickly. We use the crate when we leave the pup alone and/or at night. (does not do well in crate when left alone, but loves it when you're home) Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico ; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Highly versatile, full of essential nutrients, and undeniably the cream of the crop, meet Zucchini, an eight-year-old Basset Hound mix. While this fun-loving lady has a full social calendar, she’s more than willing to pencil you in, ready to meet her potential forever family. Enjoying walks and playtime in the pen, she’s taken a thorough inventory of the toy box, putting her paw print on her favorites. A bit stubborn, though always charming, she has a warm and friendly disposition, endless curiosity, and will entertain you with her goofy antics. There’s always room for more fun in your life, especially when it arrives on four legs and is named Zucchini! **Fun fact: Elvis Presley famously sang ‘Hound Dog’ to a top-hat-wearing Basset named Sherlock. *Zucchini is fully grown and housebroken*

Story
Have you seen our Betty??  She is just the best!   Betty is a female Basset Hound mix that is estimated to be around 8-10 years old.  She was found roaming the streets alone by some good samaritans who took her into their home and even took the time to try and find her owners but they weren't succesful.  They even went a step further and volunteered to foster Betty until we could find her a forever home.  Unfortunately, finding loving adopters for a senior dog is sometimes very difficult.  We will not give up hope that there is someone out there or a special family that has a heart big enough to give her the love, attention and nurturing that she so very much deserves.  Let me tell you a little bit about Betty.  She currently weighs about 45 pounds, but the veterinarian feels she should be closer to 50 lbs.  Betty is crate trained and potty trained!  Unfortunately, she does not do well with cats.  We feel that Betty would do best in a home with no other pets.  Betty has proved to do well with kids ages 6 and up but she has not been tested around children younger than 6.  Betty enjoys going for walks, riding in the car and hanging out with her amazing foster parents.   She has shown some difficulty going up and down stairs so it is slow going sometimes but she eventually gets there!  She is very food and treat motivated and her fosters have been using a "slow" feeding dish to slow down her eating.  She is up to date with her vaccinations and is spayed.  If you are looking for a loving companion, please consider Betty. We know you won't be disappointed.  Betty's adoption fee is $200 which goes towards veterinary care up to adoption and fostering expenses. ##2469775##
