Story
Hi, my name is Buddy. I am from Arkansas. Buddy was found or should I say dumped at the end of a dirt road at a home near where people know the fella will take them in. He has done well with other dogs and has largely ignored the cats on the property at his temporary fosters home. From his foster: In my 10 years at The Bond Between Buddy is one of my favorite dogs I've ever met. He's a great dog and will be perfect with a little time and training. He's is currently on a weight loss journey as he needs to lose roughly 25% of his body to avoid future health issues. The Good: -He hasn't had one accident or marked in our house. -Gets along with every person he meets -Hasn't been crated and hasn't chewed or destroyed anything. -Lives with 3LB Chihuahua and 75LB Rottweiler and gets along with both. -Curious but ignores our felines -Cuddly and love to be pet and snuggle -Doesn't drool as much as traditional Basset Hounds. -Is doing well with training and is food motivated (This helps a lot!). -Dispite his size he loves to hike, walk, sniff. Bassett Hounds are a working breed/hunting dog and will need physical and mental stimulation daily. -Look at him! HES SO HANDSOME. -I really think he could be a great hunting dog if someone put the effort in! Needs improvement: -We have 7 acres and access to multiple private off leash areas (fenced) and Buddy only comes when called about 60% of the time. He's improvement drastically even in the short time we've had him and think his recall could easily get to 100%. -Will need a strict diet and a fair amount of exercise to get his weight down. Bassett Hounds are prone to obesity so this will be a life long commitment. -He currently does get a little growly when you try and take his chew bones. I think he's just cranky and would never actually nip. However there are lots of resources on how to work through this. He has no problem trading it for a piece of chicken etc. It's something easily trainable. Out of an abundance of caution though I don't think a home with toddlers would be a good fit. Older children who can understand and respect boundaries of a dog would be best. Overall we are super happy to have him in our house. He's funny, sweet, snuggly and l couldn't ask for a better foster pup. We even considered putting in an application ourselves, that's saying a lot!

Story
Let me introduce myself! My name is Mason and I am an almost 2 yr old male Beagle mix. I am pretty amazing if I do say so myself! I came to Minnesota from Kentucky and found myself a nice warm foster home to live in with a dog friend, a cat who doesn’t want to be my friend, and a foster mom. I love playing with my dog friend, especially out in the yard. We wrestle and do zoomies together.  I am a very fast runner and I need to work off my energy with my zoomies. I need some serious leash training, but once I learn to be on a leash nicely, I would be a good running partner. I love to explore and my nose sometimes gets me in trouble with all the good smells, so my foster mom thinks I should have a fence in my new home. I am fully house-trained. While in the house I’m a pretty chill boy. I find a comfy spot and either take naps or lay and watch what’s going on in the house. Sometimes I even watch TV. There is one thing I dislike more than anything and that is a kennel! I get very high anxiety when I go in one and I have been known to tear apart a kennel when made to be in one. I am allowed to have free reign when when my foster mom goes away and I have never hurt anything in the house. I sleep in the bed with my foster mom and she says I am a great bed partner. If she asks me to move, I do and I don’t get off the bed until it’s time to get up. I get very excited when I see kids and can’t contain my excitement so I might not be the best companion for small kids as I might knock them down with my enthusiasm. I do like activity though so older kids would be great! As I said before there is a cat here and I really want to be friends, but she doesn’t. I would never try to hurt her, I just want to play. If she runs I chase, I figure that’s her wanting to play. I am very curious about what she is and I’ll keep trying to be friends with her, even when my foster mom tells me to leave the cat alone a few times a day. I try to be a really good boy all the time, but as we all know even the best of us have some quirks. Here are mine: I do like to do a little counter-surfing if there are good things within my reach. I’m slowly learning to stay down though. I am highly food and treat motivated so any food within my reach is not safe. I love to go on adventures in the car but I get car sick. I take some pills now before a car ride and they make my tummy feel so much better. When I went to the vet they said I have some dental issues so I will need to have yearly dental checkups. Because of these issues, I cannot chew on anything hard. I really am a sweet boy but I am very timid! I do not do well meeting new people. I try to hide and not even treats will bring me out of my shell. Once I get to know you we can be best friends though. It may take several meets for you to see my true, loving personality. My foster mom just had to be patient at first and it didn’t take long for me to trust her. I will be the same with you, be patient and gentle, and I’ll come around and soon be giving you lots of kisses. I hope you can look past these quirks and give me the chance to show you what a great addition I’d make to your family!  Thanks for reading about me!     Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. He is very smart and crate trained, he is working on learning to use a signal when he needs to go outside and go pottyHe is a bit scared when he meets new people and is slow to warm up to them.  But once he does he is so snuggly and playful! He really is a happy guy. Sometimes he does not like to share what he values. We’ve been working on that. ( He does coome with a trainer )His best life will be with a quiet household he does require another confident dog in the home to help him overcome his social anxieties. Think of it like his own personal ESA. He’s good with older respectful kids and other dogs. Cats are unknown. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $350 plus taxBruno is currently in boarding while we continue to search for a foster or adoptive home. While boarding is safe and playgroups can be fun it will never compare to a home. LET’S GET BRUNO OUT OF BOARDING AND INTO A HOME!Bruno would an active home that will take him for fun Sniffaris. Bruno is a low key guy who would love a job even if that is being your best friend. Unfortunately Bruno lost his previous home  due to circumstances outside of his control. Bruno is a bit of a velcro dog who is pretty quiet for a hound. He does well with the older kids and in his previous home he used his kennel/crate as his safe space and the children were instructed to leave him alone when he retreats to his kennel.  While Bruno is not cat friendly he does do well with other dogs similar in size but would also be fine as an only dog.
