Story
Looking for an active, smart boy who would love a structured home with plenty of exercise?  Chevy is your guy!     Chevy has been in our program for a few years now as he needs to go to that perfect home that understands him and his needs.  You see, Chevy is a working/herding breed of dog and was on his own to fend for himself for so long on the rough streets of Houston that he's leery of people until he gets to know you.  Chevy had been living under a truck for a while (it was a Chevy) while a Scout's Honor volunteer was working to gain his trust. He kept going every day to feed him and give him some attention. The business near where he was let him come onto their property and provided him some shelter.  Unfortunately, because there was a busy street nearby, Chevy got bumped by a few cars when he was out and about and lost a few teeth as a result.  Luckily, he did not sustain any significant injuries, and just needed to eat and get a bath.  Fast-forward a few years, Chevy is in boarding and loves other dogs and loves to play !  He is a high energy dog, but is also very smart and alert. He needs A LOT of exercise and positive reinforcement, but will pick up very quickly on what you are teaching him. He would be a great dog for agility or flyball!!  As long as you keep him busy and challenged he will impress you with how well he can learn things. He just wants someone who will give him the direction, attention and structure he wants/needs. He would make a great dog for an active home with NO kiddos.  Kiddos are just too unpredictable for this guy.  He also needs a home that understands how to properly introduce him to new people and watch his cues.  Chevy can be very protective of his people and area, so proper intros are a must.  He would do best in a home that does not have a lot of new people coming in/out. True to his Kelpie/Basenji breed, Chevy likes to herd and run and play .  Check out this video of him just having a grand time running - look at those turns!      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L81s-TWX9SA&feature=youtu.be  Kelpie's/Basenji's are unique problem solvers and will find a way to do whatever he deems necessary.  True to these breed, he will also be fierlcy protective of his family (getting back to proper intros).  Chevy fits these traits to a T, and anyone who knows and loves the herding breeds would just adore little Chevy!!   Chevy is up to date on vaccinations, neutered and micro-chipped.   Please contact us at info@scoutshonor.org if you are interested in fostering or adopting this precious guy!  You can read all about our foster and adoption process, as well as make a donation for his care, on our website at www.scoutshonor.org.    Scout's Honor Rescue is a 501c3 whose primary focus is rescuing dogs from the euthanasia list from high kill TX shelters. EIN # is 87-0773073 Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/scoutshonorrescue or Instagram at www.instagram.com/scoutshonorrescue We have multiple ways to donate: Venmo:  @ScoutsHonor-Rescue Paypal: www.paypal.me/scoutshonorrescue   https://scoutshonor.org/take-action/donate/ We are strictly volunteer based, no salaries are paid and 100% of donations go towards rescuing dogs January 22, 2025, 6:49 pm

Story
Meet Bambi, a young, spirited bundle of joy. Her friendly demeanor and playful energy will fill your home with laughter and love. Bambi`s curiosity is infectious; she loves to explore and dig, making every day an adventure. She has even figured out how to open gate latches. She weighs 27 pounds and also likes agility, running, tugging, toys, walks, water, chase, and wrestling. She`s the life of the party in the dog park, making friends with ease, and is the queen of the castle, ruling with a playful yet bossy demeanor with both dogs and cats. She has no experience with children. Despite her independent streak, Bambi is a true lap dog, craving cuddles and affection. Her protective nature makes her the perfect guardian, and her affectionate side ensures endless love. Her intense love for life is palpable, and her jumpy excitability is endearing. Bambi`s love for chewing is a testament to her youthful spirit. Chew toys are her favorite thing. She`s also bilingual, understanding the word `no` in both English and Spanish. (It`s the same!) She will need help with house training and leash walking with guidance in the language of your choice. She was given up because her owner could no longer to care for her. Bambi is a friend for life, waiting to share her boundless love and zest for life with you. Adopting Bambi means gaining a loyal, loving companion who will make every day brighter. (tw 1/30/2025)

Story
Sadie is a very sweet girl and loves to go to the dog park to run and play with the other dogs. She is a little skittish until she gets to know you but then she just wants to be with her human. She seems to be pretty smart and I think she is very trainable. She uses a doggie door at home to go outside and likes to lay in the sun or just sit at my feet. Storms and loud noises (fireworks) do frighten her. I have two dogs, Sadie and Hank. They both sleep with me at nap time or bedtime but otherwise are not allowed on furniture. I love them very much but I need to go into an assisted living situation. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have about her. I just want to find her a good home. Thank you

Story
Steepe is a beautiful puppy. About 29 pounds; almost fully grown. Adopted from a shelter as a stray. Unfortunately, he does not get along with my cat. The cat atacks him because they are about the same size and Steepe does not know how to respond. Runs into his crate. Steepe loves to play with my other dog. He is crate trained and behaves well on a leash. Is still a bit jumpy because of his experience of living on the street. Looking for understanding and love.

Story
If you’re looking for a young, fun loving energetic new family member, Diane may be just what you need in your life. Diane’s estimated date of birth is February 10, 2024. The shelter listed Diane as a lab, but we think she has basenji and boxer traits. Whatever she is, she is C U T E. Diane has a curious personality and loves exploring the world around her. She likes playing in water from the hose playing in her puppy pool. She also enjoys racing or wrestling with the other dogs in her foster home.Diane is treat motivated and quickly learned sit, paw and lay down. She also learned how to lift the lid of the cookie display at the local pet store and help herself. She is well supervised in the store now to avoid a shoplifting charge. We don’t know what happened early in Diane’s life. What we do know is that our local shelter put out a plea for two pups with broken bones who needed crate rest. Active Paws Rescue quickly stepped up for both. We named them Jack and Diane. Jack had a broken front paw and recovered with limited activity and rest. Diane’s case was a little more complicated. She had breaks in both back legs. Her left tibia had a nonunion that was acting like a hinge. Her right femur was misaligned and needed surgical repair. Her incredible surgeon has released her to full activity and doesn’t expect any complications. Diane is fully vetted, kennel trained and housetrained. Diane will do best in a home with a fenced yard and a dog with a similar activity level.

These pups are in Houston, Texas too!
