Story
He is a lovey and safe with kiddos. He's still a bit jumpy, but that's when he's excited. When he is regularly walked, he's not as energetic. He love to eat and is very quick and sneaky. He's not fixed yet. I was planning on it, but my health has taken up a lot of my time. He loves the outdoors, but not so much when it super cold and rainy. He can handle the cold to a certain extent though. He doesn't do a lot of chewing up things, but if you leave it long enough it's free game for him. Contact Hananh Pet Hos[pital 503.300.6458

Meet Leo: The Gentle Basenji Terrier Mix Introduction Meet Leo, a sensitive and observant male Basenji Terrier mix born on November 2, 2022. With his gentle nature and soulful eyes, Leo is looking for a compassionate family who will provide the understanding and patience he needs to thrive. Despite a challenging past, Leo is slowly learning to trust and is eager to find a forever home where he can feel safe and loved. Leo's Personality Leo is a remarkable blend of the Basenji's diligence and the Terrier's alertness. His unique personality makes him a special companion for those who appreciate a thoughtful and gentle dog. Here are some key traits that define Leo: Alert and Cautious: Leo is always aware of his surroundings and approaches new situations with a bit of apprehension. This quality makes him an excellent watchdog, though his past experiences may have contributed to his initial shyness. Calm and Relaxed When Safe: Leo's true nature shines when he feels secure. In a nurturing environment, he is calm, relaxed, and exudes happiness, making him a comforting presence in any home. Shy but Warming Up: Initially shy, Leo is starting to feel more comfortable around people. With time and gentle interactions, he is beginning to open up and show his affectionate side. Fears and Training Needs: Leo has a particular fear of walking canes and requires a gentle approach in training. Building confidence and trust has been a focus, and he is gradually accepting body handling with positive reinforcement. Basenji Terrier Mix Breed Overview The Basenji Terrier mix combines the unique qualities of both breeds, resulting in a dog that is intelligent, alert, and loyal: Size: Small to medium, typically weighing between 20 to 30 pounds Lifespan: 12 to 14 years Coat: Short and low-maintenance, Basenjis are known for being "barkless" dogs, though they can vocalize in other ways Temperament: Independent, intelligent, and often reserved, they are known for their cleanliness and curiosity What to Expect When Adopting Leo Adopting a rescue dog like Leo can be a deeply rewarding experience. Here are some considerations for prospective families: Patience and Understanding : Leo may need time to adjust to his new surroundings. Patience and understanding are crucial as he learns to trust and feel secure in his new home. Gentle Training : A gentle approach to training is essential for Leo. Positive reinforcement techniques will help him build confidence and learn basic commands. Building Confidence : Encouraging Leo with loving interactions and gradual exposure to new experiences will help him become a well-adjusted and confident dog. Creating a Safe Haven : A calm and secure environment is vital for Leo’s well-being. Provide him with a quiet space where he can retreat and feel safe. Owner Responsibilities Bringing Leo into your home is a commitment filled with mutual benefits. Here are some responsibilities to consider: Safe Environment: Create a safe and comfortable space for Leo, free from hazards and with cozy spots for him to relax. Regular Veterinary Care: Keep up with Leo's vaccinations, check-ups, and any necessary medical treatments. Balanced Diet: Provide a nutritious diet suited to Leo's size and activity level, alongside fresh water at all times. Grooming Needs: Although his coat requires minimal grooming, regular brushing will keep it healthy and shiny. Love and Attention: Spend quality time with Leo, offering the love and attention he craves. He will return your care with loyalty and affection. Are you ready to offer Leo the loving home he deserves? This gentle Basenji Terrier mix is eager to join a family who will nurture his growth and celebrate his unique personality. Story
If you like your dogs small in size, big on love, and perfect in personality- Meet Emi She is absolute perfection- polite, friendly, affectionate, playful, dog friendly, a gentleman with cats, a lover of toys, and the master at finding the coziest napping spots. To truly understand the description you have to watch her video. Her size is much easier to grasp that way. We suspect she is a Shiba Inu/Carrolina mix but given she is a rescue we cannot say with 100% certainty her breed or age. Estimated to be somewhere in the 4-6 month range, she weighs 17 lbs. If you adopt her and opt for a DNA test, please share the results. We love updates and DNA results on the head-scratchers are a favorite! Take a look and see what we mean- https://youtu.be/bbUgqetUgVc Emi is a loving, playful, affectionate sweetheart who is ready to scooch in close, and maybe sneak a gentle kiss within a few moment of meeting you. Not in a pushy way though, her approach is gentle and so friendly. We were all impressed by how balanced her energy is, especially given her estimated age. Her overall approach to everything she has experienced is friendly, warm and polite, with a perfect touch of curious joy. Every now and then a tiny bit of “shy” will sneak in, mostly when meeting dogs that are larger and forward. Her best-friend in her foster home is a dog that is bigger than her, she is comfortable with the size but prefers taking a moment to get to know a new dog. She loves a playful companion and the best buddy for her would be playful without being pushy or overly energetic. We would describe her as moderately energetic—up for a play session or a nice walk, but just as happy snuggling on the couch with a toy. Her playful yet balanced energy makes her a great companion for someone looking for a dog who enjoys both fun and social-time just as much as downtime. Emi is so fortunate to be learning and growing in a wonderful foster home. Her foster has shared that she is just a joy to have around and has been an easy addition to their home. From tagging along on coffee dates to relaxing in the back yard, Emi is just easy company. She shared that she is fully house trained as well! Yay to that! Emi is very treat motivated and has taken to learning new skills and a few tricks easily. If you have a treat in your hand, you have her full attention. She has fully mastered sit and has a great default sit when bringing you a toy to play or waiting for her food to be served. She did show off a little dance though we don’t know if it is a “trick” or just a cute little thing she does. From everything we know so far, she would enjoy having another dog in the home to play with. If an only-dog, she will benefit from regular walks, enrichment, on-going socializing and occasional days at a doggie day-care for her dog-friendly playful side to be satisfied. If you have a cat, don’t worry there, she lives with three cats in her foster home and was introduced to our house cat and she was perfectly cautious, respectful and calm. We consider her cat-tolerant and she will respond well to learning from her people and the cat what the boundaries are once she is home. With her easy-going nature and love for people, she is sure to be an adored and cherished companion for any family or individual looking for petite perfection! Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. Story
Hello, I am Gucci! I am a young dog ready for a forever home. I am playful, affectionate and loyal. I like going on walks and cuddling up for belly rubs. If there are other dogs in the home, I can be territorial about my food, but otherwise I am very dog friendly. I am a young dog, so I will still need some basic training. If you are interested in adopting me, please go to the Ozzie and Friends website https://www.ozzieandfriendsrescue.org  November 6, 2024, 2:40 pm
