Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Madison! This beautiful little 3 year old girl is lively, bright, filled with potential - and just waiting to be your best friend!
Yep, darling Madison really loves her human family, and she is going to attach strongly to whomever she belongs. She is such a little love bug and a total shadow too, wanting to be by your side doing whatever you are all day long! Although she’s a little reserved when it comes to meeting new people, she definitely warms up to them pretty quickly. She gets along with other dogs, too, and is very playful with her doggy buddies! She plays with all of her canine foster brothers and sisters (and she is one of 10). Madison is a brave trooper and not afraid to try anything. She enjoys hiking, swimming, playing in the sprinkler, and looooves to fetch…running or dog sports could also be wonderful outlets for this athletic, active girl. Madison is definitely a higher energy lass and will need a good chunk of exercise daily to be happiest and settle down. She doesn’t show a lot of herding instinct. Cats are an unknown at this point, but we don't think that she is suitable to a home with kids. Madison came to WBCR as an owner surrender from a family who decided they didn't have time for her.
Like many Border Collies, Madison loves to learn and likes having direction, so of course she is catching on to basic manners very quickly at her foster home. She’s housetrained, learned the dog door in about 60 seconds, knows sit, and has a great recall. She is a bit of a puller on leash, but an Easy Walk harness will really help with that. Madison is a clever girl who loves to be busy, and so can be a lot of dog! She will do best with an adopter who will set fair and consistent boundaries for her, and who will continue to work with her not just on the basics but also with her impulse control and occasional resource guarding tendencies. While her guarding is not at all an unusual behavior in dogs, she will benefit from an adopter willing to show her that sharing things is a far better route to go! Madison is a quick study and it doesn’t take much to point her in the right direction, but she does need (and appreciates!) guidance and gentle, reward-based training tactics. Given her strong desire to interact with people and her quick mind, the sky’s the limit as to what this girl can learn!
Madison is a lovely young lass who will thrive in an active, loving home where she will be a full-fledged member of the family. An adoptive family who has BC experience and who has the time and energy to fulfill her needs and work with her to help her become the fantastic canine citizen we know she can be would be best for Madison. If you are looking for an enthusiastic young Border Collie who is overflowing with potential and eager to be your partner in life, this flashy little vixen may be the one for you.
Madison is spayed, vacced, microchipped and living in a loving foster home near Colorado Springs, CO.
