My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Phil – Ready to Steal Your Heart! This little ball of fluff is Phil, a 12-week-old Dachshund / Westie mix who weighs in at just 6 lbs. His estimated full grown weight is around 12-15 lbs. (His mom is 12 lbs, but we have no info on who the dad was). Don’t let his tiny size fool you—Phil has a big personality, and he’s ready to find a forever family to share it with!

Phil is the type of pup who loves to explore the world one sniff at a time. Whether it’s investigating a new patch of grass or chasing after a favorite toy, he’s full of puppy curiosity and enthusiasm. With his Havanese charm and Dachshund spunk, Phil’s an adorable mix of sweetness and mischief.

At such a young age, Phil’s still learning the ropes of the world—he’s eager to take on adventures with a patient and loving family who can help him grow into the best dog he can be. We're open to Phil finding his forever home with a retired couple or individual with the commitment and energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart puppy. Farfel's isn't willing to place Phil with a family that works full-time outside of the home. It's not in his best interest as a puppy in her developmental stages to spend these long hours alone. A family that works from a home-based office would be great for periodic puppy-loving throughout the day. We also require all of our adopters to sign up for positive reinforcement training with their new family member and will provide you with a list of trainers we recommend throughout Colorado!

Phil was found as a stray in Arkansas, living in a bush with his mom and 4 other brothers. They were rescued and brought into a small shelter, and then booked a ticket to Colorado for a fresh start.

Phil is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his young age. He's also so loving and cuddly. Even at just 12 weeks old, it's clear that this puppy is SO smart and very sweet.

Since Phil is just a puppy, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. He will form firm bonds with his family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement puppy kindergarten followed by force-free level 1 Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a puppy's ultimate behavior and in their relationship/bonding with their people. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.

Phil is up to date on his shots, although will still require 1 or 2 more parvo booster(s) as he gets a bit older, before it is safe to go out on public ground. He is not yet neutered, as he is too young. It’s been shown that neutering closer to 1 year old is better for the dog’s health. For this reason, we give any puppy under 1 until they are 1 year old to be neutered. Neuter is required by law to finalize any adoption, and Farfel’s Rescue covers the full cost of his neuter.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Phil, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com/adopt. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving puppy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

If you’re ready for a loyal little sidekick, Phil can’t wait to meet you!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue

We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
