Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We happened to be in the back of the shelter, loading a dog onto transport, when we saw a long hallway lined with crates. There was a dog in each crate. Yep. Like nearly every shelter in southern California, East Valley’s kennels are full, so overflow dogs are housed in common areas, often away from public view, in crates.
A staff member arrived to feed all the dogs. They all began to eat, except for Hogan. He just sat there gazing at us, disinterested in food. His ribs were prominent beneath his skin.
We rescued Hogan a few days later and took him to our buddy Eleanor. She’s fostering Hogan and introducing him to life again. Hogan hasn’t stopped smiling.
We believe that Hogan is an English Pointer – Lab mix. If you look at his profile, you can see the slightly upturned muzzle of an English Pointer, along with the graceful, prancing gait. And guess what? He’s what those in the field dog community call “birdy.”
Eleanor confirms our suspicions on breed mix. She recently took Hogan out hiking in the mountains, where he was happy to wade in the river, chase squirrels, and lock in on birds. What a change from a 42-inch cage, huh?
Hogan is 2 years old, medium energy, dog-friendly, and happily birdy. Let us know if you’d like to meet him!
