Here's what the humans have to say about me:
If dogs could only talk, Ginger would have a very sad story to tell…...
Our rescue partner Viki (in Macedonia) found Ginger, a starving homeless stray street dog who was terrified and hiding under a car.
Looking more closely,, Viki saw that Ginger was bleeding profusely after someone had tried to strangle her with a wire!
Viki saved Ginger’s life just in time, by rushing her to the emergency vet who closed the deep wounds on her neck and treated her infection.
Since then, Viki has been nursing Ginger back to health, Now she is very healthy and is at a perfect weight--about 35 lbs.
Ginger has physically recovered from her trauma but—not surprisingly—she is still timid and afraid of new things.
It takes her a short time to trust someone (although she is not inclined to bite; she just wants to hide). Because she is afraid of new things and needs to develop more self-confidence, she needs an adopter who understands her shyness and who is willing to work with her to overcome her fears. In addition, we feel she would do best with another dog "pal" (to teach her how to be brave) rather than being an only dog.
Ginger enjoys “hanging out” in her crate (where she has collected all of her toys) and she is open to learning new things as long as she knows she won’t be hurt.
Ginger is loving and extremely gentle and she is appreciative of cuddling and petting.
We feel the best fit for Ginger would be someone who works out of his/her home, is retired, or who works just part time. Ginger loves to lie outside in the sun on a nice day, so we want her to be able to relax in a safely fenced yard (we do not consider an "invisible" fence a safe or humane method of containment).
Ginger is about four years old, so she has the advantage of being past the “naughty puppy” stage. Ginger is 98% housebroken (she has now learned to wake her foster mom up when she has to go potty in the morning).
And she has been totally vetted (spayed, heartworm tested, immunizations, dewormed, and microchipped). Her adoption fee is $300.
Ginger isn’t (at least for now) what we would consider “adventurous”. So she would make a great companion for an adopter who lives a fairly calm, quiet lifestyle and who has patience and the love in their heart to continue helping Ginger recover from the trauma she endured.
If you have experience working with shy dogs, if you have a safely FENCED YARD, and if you feel you would be a good match for Ginger (and vice versa) please e-mail us at: sylvialovesme@gmail.com and tell us about yourself—your daily schedule, etc. Please also share with us why you feel you would be a good fit for this beautiful brindle girl. Then, if we agree you would be a good match for each other, we will send you an adoption application and make plans for a meet-and-greet.
PLEASE NOTE: Ginger is presently being fostered in a northwest suburb of Chicago.
