Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Scout-PA, a high energy, sweet male 12 month old Aussiedoodle, who is in an IDOG foster home in Leesport, PA 1 hour north west of Philadelphia.
*Please read ALL the information in his listing before applying for him to ensure you understand what we feel Scout needs to be successful in his new home. If you would like to be considered as a potential adopter for Scout, please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser). If you completed an adoption application in the last 3 months & would like for your application to be considered for Scout, please email us to rescue@idogrescue.com.
*You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all of the questions in the application, your application won’t be considered. We will review your application & email you within 2-3 weeks if you made our short list of applicants for Scout. You can check the status of Scout’s adoption at www.doodles.petfinder.com or any of our social media pages. We will change his status to adopted when he is adopted.
*Please check your emails regularly & also your junk/spam folder. If we email you that you made our short list of applicants for Scout, we expect a response within 24 hours.
*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs - your understanding is appreciated.
*We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for - we do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.
*You must be approved to adopt Scout before we will schedule a meet & greet with his foster. We do not transport our dogs. We expect approved adopters to visit his in his foster home within a short period of time of being approved to adopt him. Our adoption process involves vet & personal reference checks, phone interviews, a home visit, an adoption contract & an adoption fee.
*AGE: 12 months old (born October 2021)
*WEIGHT: 40 lbs.
*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical secure fence is required. He is a young guy and needs daily exercise and walking to expend his energy. No shock collars or invisible fences will be considered as we do not feel these would set him up for success.
*COAT TYPE: Scout has a low-shedding scruffy coat that will need regular brushing and grooming. His new family should be prepared for the expense ($100) of having him groomed every 12-14 weeks.
*ENERGY LEVEL: High energy! He is an Aussiedoodle which means he has working breed genetics. He is very athletic and loves to be moving! He will need daily exercise in the form of walks/runs and playing. He is currently getting several hours of free play every day plus lots of play time with his foster dog brothers
*DOGS: Scout does great with our Goldendoodle puppy and Labrador retriever. Scout is an alpha dog and clashes with our other herding dog, a 100 lb. male Sheepadoodle. He is very active and likes to play most of the time. He is a herding breed so he does push his way to the front of the pack and likes to be first out the door.
*CATS: he has had no exposure to cats.
*KIDS: 12+. Scout is very mouthy and would likely not be successful with younger children. He does jump on people to say hi so he has the potential to knock younger kids over.
*CAR: Great. He is always ready to go for a ride!
*CRATE: Yes, but he doesn’t love it. He whined at night when we put him in it. I have started giving him Kong full of frozen food when he goes into the crate and he licks and chews on that for hours. I do the same thing when we do need to go out.
*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes. He sits at the door when he needs to go outside.
*LEASH: Scout likes to pull and zig/zag when on leash walking. I have started working with him in a harness and Martindale collar and he is doing better.
More details on Scout:
Scout is a 12 month old, 40 lb. male Aussiedoodle (Australian Shepherd/Poodle) puppy. His owner was told he was a Labradoodle but we believe he is an Aussiedoodle due to his coloring and herding instincts.
His owner loved him very much and asked for IDOG’s assistance in rehoming him due to her job requiring a lot of travel. He has a gorgeous blue merle coat with one blue eye and one brown. He is very active, incredibly sweet, and an all-around fun dog!
Scouts ideal home will be with an active family with herding/working dog experience that loves the outdoors and is willing to take him on runs, walks, and hikes. Scout enjoys Nylabones and chasing balls and other toys, he does love a good treat and will be easily trained using food motivation. He knows sit and leave it. We are working on come, stay, and not jumping. He is very smart and learns quickly!
Scout is house trained and crate trained. He isn’t a huge fan of the crate at nights. But it’s just because he wants to be by your side most of the time…unless he’s playing with the other dogs.
Scout likes to be with you at all times. When he has had enough exercise and mental stimulation he is very cuddly and loves to snuggle. Scout does not bark on walks.
The type of home in which we feel Scout would be most successful:
-Active family with herding dog experience
-Minimal crate time
-Lots of toys
-Ensures his exercise needs are met
Things we are working with Scout on:
- commands,
- he is a counter surfer
- not being so mouthy
Overall, Scout is a handsome, playful and active dog. He is going to be a great addition to his new family with the appropriate exercise and training. He is up to date on core vaccines, neutered, microchipped, and house-trained. He is heartworm negative and current on heartworm/flea/tick preventives.
