Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Wow!!!! Looking for the total BC package?? Flash is your man!! Sweet, smart, athletic and handsome - Flash is a total superstar!!
How did this boy come into rescue? It's a mystery. Found as a stray, he ended up unclaimed in a Denver area shelter....and then was deemed "unadoptable" because, despite passing all his other tests with flying colors, he was mouthy while being vaccinated. WBCR was called, and soon Flash was safe and sound with us!!
And their loss is our gain. We were ever delighted to discover this fabulous fella who greets life with a smile! Although Flash will bond quickly to his person and love to be with them, he is also very outgoing and is a friend to every person he meets. He's equally kind to other dogs...he wants to meet every dog he sees and has stellar dog-dog manners. He'll play with those who want to, but is very respectful of those who aren't interested. Good boy! He likes to play with people, too, and sees toys solely as objects to be fetched. He's shaping up to be a bit of a fetch-a-holic. There seems to be some herding instinct lurking in there, too, and no doubt he would make a great flyball or agility dog prospect as well.
We suspect that in the past Flash was either understimulated or teased, as he is overly interested in chasing the movement of light and shadows, but is already learning to redirect his attention from this. A long term daily routine that includes physical and mental stimulation will go a long way in addressing this misdirected instinct. Flash goes all out when playing, running, or fetching, then will come inside and find a nice spot to relax next to his people.
Flash is a dog that loves nothing more than being engaged - be it going somewhere, doing something, or learning. This boy is as bright as they come and is incredibly eager to learn. He is an ‘anticipator’, meaning he thinks a step or two ahead of what he is doing and is smart enough to anticipate what is coming up next, or what you want him to do - which makes training a lot of fun!! He learns very quickly, and seems to enjoy training as well as performing his tricks. We have recently discovered he has a Frisbee trick: he will hold & balance a Frisbee on his head until you tell him to ‘get it’ then he flips it up and catches it in his mouth!! The sky's the limit on what Flash can learn. He is already housetrained, cratetrained, and familiar with the basics like sit, down, stay, and shake. He rides well in the car. Although he needs a little work walking on leash, he's good off leash and has a great recall.
All this and looks too? You betcha! With classic markings, a rough, wavy coat, and a smile a mile wide, he's quite the handsome devil. Flash shows off that smile quite a bit, and is incredibly expressive with his face and ear movements. His age? Ah, well, that's another mystery. His teeth that show some wear & staining, but he also still shows some puppy-ish behaviors. He's perhaps between 3 and 5?
All in all, Flash is an absolutely GREAT dog and will thrive in any situation where he can be a part of the family and a part of the action! A family who will frequently get him out and about on adventures, teach him new things, and allow him to spread doggy happiness everywhere will be perfect for Flash.
Because of his mouthiness, he will not be placed in a home with small children. If you love those typical BC qualities, Flash is going to be a dream come true. He is a great combination of the energetic Border collie work ethic and the loving companion dog. And if you are looking for a bright, eager, joyful best friend for a lifetime of fun and excitement - Flash is ready to go!!
Flash is fully vetted and living in a loving foster home near Denver, CO.
