My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mahogany, known as Gunny, is a busy, active 11 month old boy! He is easy to live with and is housetrained, crate trained, and has a number of trained basic skills. He is shy with strangers and needs time to warm up. When Gunny was 11 weeks old, he was diagnosed with a serious eye condition called distichia, in which his eyelashes curled under and scraped the cornea. He had surgery with a canine opthamologist and has had all of his follow-up visits. He’s doing great, has no lasting effects, and there’s no reason to believe there will be any further complications. He lives with a certified professional dog trainer, who will be available for his lifetime to answer all questions regarding training and behavior. Hickory was great with cats in the home where he was born, but his current puppy raiser home does not have cats. As Gunny’s mom and all his littermates are great with cats, it should be pretty easy to get him back into life with a cat. Gunny’s best buddy left for advance service dog training, but he got along with him wonderfully while they lived together. A new foster puppy has entered the home and Gunny seems to be quickly warming up to the puppy. Gunny could probably adapt quite successfully to a home with older children, but young children could be too much for him initially.

Gunny was born at our facility to a mom we pulled from the shelter 8 days before she gave birth. He was placed into our service dog training program, but along with his littermates, developed shyness and aloofness with strangers as an adolescent puppy. Gunny’s initial reserved nature is probably also affected by the very invasive and painful vet treatments he went through. He may take some time to get to know, but he is the goofiest and cutest boy when he gets to know you! Gunny is a super snuggly boy and just wants to spend time with his people as much as possible. He would be very happy with someone who has plenty of time and enjoys spending a lot of time interacting with their dog. He loves playing, snuggling, and carrying any possession he can get his paws on out into the yard!
