My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Buran! It might seem like an unusual name, that is because I am from Ukraine! My name means "Snowstorm" in Russian. Please read on, because I have quite the story.

My sister and I were born homeless in a city park in Kyiv (Kiev), Ukraine. Our mom gave birth into a hole in the park and after it rained, the hole turned to mud and we got stuck! We would have never gotten out, but a nice lady who fed stray animals in the park heard us crying and came over and dug us out!

We were so lucky to be rescued, because if we hadn't died from the mud, in Ukraine, there are mean people who shoot and poison dogs in the streets. Luckily, we were brought to an outdoor shelter, but there are so many street dogs, and not enough people who want to adopt them, so we waited and waited :(

Then, one day, our whole life changed! We found out that we got into an American program that takes Ukrainian street dogs and teaches them to live in homes. If they cannot be adopted in Ukraine, the program sends some lucky dogs to America!

So, I went to live in a foster home in Kyiv! I lived with a foster mom, a teenage boy, a large female dog and a cat! I got along with everyone great!

When I moved there, I did not know how to walk on a leash and I was not toilet trained. After just 5-7 days I was doing pretty well with both!

I need time to get used to new people and new surroundings, but when I do, I like to take walks, play with lots of different chew toys and play fetch (although I am not too good at bringing the ball back yet.) Once I got used to my foster family in Ukraine they said I was very loving and loyal!

A good thing about me is that my first foster mom crate trained me very well and I like my crate. Now, at my foster home in California, my foster mom works from home, but when she does leave, I am ok to be outside the crate and I do not bother anything.

I like my chew toys and do not chew anything I am not supposed to.

When I was in Ukraine, I worked with an obedience trainer, so after I get used to my new surroundings and routine, I can be very obedient.

I am still a young dog though, so I am looking for someone who will walk me at least 2-3 times a day, want to play ball with me and take on long walks on the weekends. I am not a crazy high energy dog, but I am not super mellow either. I would be a good fit for a moderately active person/family. I would probably do better with a yard and a home with another dog and older children or no children.

I am looking for a stable and loving home where I could grow to be your best friend! Please write my Rescue if you are interested :)
