My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

12/12/08: My name is Dakota. I actually know my birthday, which is October 2nd, 2003. I was a gift to my mistress when I was six weeks old. She had surgery on her vocal chords and could no longer speak. For five years, I was her companion and her protector. She communicated with me using hand claps, gestures, and whistles and praised me plenty with lots and lots of kisses. I can also read her facial expression very keenly. Well, she had to move to another state into a community that would not allow dogs, sadly, she had to give me up; so here I am looking for a new home.

I am a very good looking dog. I know because I have my floppy ears, full tail and dew claws all intact, totally au natural – what a real boxer should look like. That was the way my mistress believed. I’m so-oo-oo glad that my physique is absolutely perfect as nature had intended. When I’m really happy, my tail just doesn’t wag, it whirls in circles like a blender and you can sure tell how thrilled I am. For a female, I am on the larger side, but I am very submissive. To show people how glad I am to see them, I do the typical boxer happy jump. I don’t mean to knock people down. My foster parents are working with me on this; so I might not be good for little children just yet. Oh, I have no idea what a cat is, never seen one, never played with one.

My foster sisters are both pups. They wrestle and spar everyday, I just don’t understand their rambunctious behavior. Let’s go to the sidebar, I’ll whisper in your ears -- frankly, I think they are quite nutty. I rather cuddle up with my human companions and get a full body rub then having my eyes poked out by a puppy claw. I tolerate them, but I much prefer being the only dog.

I don’t have the knack down with car rides as I only got into a car for vet visits, which is about once a year. I didn’t go out for walks either, but my foster parents know how well I do on a leash even as a newbie. I don’t pull or lunge; I just have trouble staying on the sidewalk because I’m very curious about the big new world I’ve only recently been introduced to. You see, for my entire life I pretty much stayed in the house and romped in the back yard since my mistress rarely went out.

The feel of a human’s body next to mine is just heavenly, so I am very affectionate. My house manners are impeccable. I leave people’s things alone. You won’t find me stealing socks or chew on furniture. I’m tall enough to reach the counter, but I leave the counter surfing business to the pups. They can get into trouble, I’m smarter than that! I never beg at the dinner table; I catch up on my beauty nap when people are eating. When I do eat, I take my sweet old time. I enjoy savoring my food, unlike the silly pups who vacuum their food in 30 seconds flat.

If you are looking for a well behaved beautiful specimen, I am your girl! Take me home! I will worship the ground that you walk on! Please contact my foster mom KT at KTWen@aol.com and fill out an adoption application at www.njboxerrescue.com
