Additional adoption info

Potential adopters need to fill out an adoption application. References will be checked and a home visit conducted. Potential adopters need to ensure that any current pets and all family members meet with us prior to any adoption. Adopters are responsible for confirming with their homeowners insurance company that there will be no lapse in coverage with a rottweiler or pitbull on premises. Adopters are also responsible for confirming that there is no breed specific legislation in their community.

Processing adoption applications involves our volunteers' time and resources. We ask that you REVIEW OUR ADOPTION CONTRACT which outlines training, housing and fencing requirements BEFORE YOU APPLY. If agreeing to all of the terms in the contract is not something you are willing to comply with, please do not apply.

We prefer our dogs to be placed in northern New England because that's where we are physically. We will extend our adoptions to the immediate surrounding states including northern New Jersey and New York based on volunteer availability.

In accordance with the regulations set forth by the Department of Agriculture in New Hampshire, For the Love of Dog considers our "coverage area" to be New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts. Dogs who originate outside of our coverage area require additional pre-entry medical expenses and quarantine as well as transportation fees.

Unless otherwise noted, the adoption fee for dogs are as follows:

Rottweilers originating from our coverage area :: $350 ($400 for dogs 6 months and under).

Rottweilers originating outside of our coverage area :: $450.

All Bully Breeds :: $200

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Penelope is a three year old spayed great pyrenees. She wandered upon an elderly couples property. They kept her for several weeks but decided she was too big for them to handle so they reached out to one of our partner shelters. Penelope is very chill! Did fine oncar rides. Walks nice on a leash. VERY dog friendly. Haven’t tested with cats. No issue around kids but that has been limited exposure. Please visit our website for more info on our adoption process and adoption application www.barkdogfarm.org Before applying be sure you have thoroughly researched Great Pyrenees. They can be stubborn, prone to barking, overly protective and cannot be off leash. You WILL NOT train a pyr to boundaries. Please be sure all family members are in agreement to adopting and your family is ready to bring dog home now. Applicants must be at least 21 years old. We do not have blanket criteria regarding adoptions. Each applicant is considered based on many things including but not limited to breed experience, yard ( visible fence preferred) and other animals in home. We try to avoid dogs with same sex households as pyrs typically do not do well with the same sex. A volunteer will be in touch to discuss your application and the dog to determine if it is a good match. Your vet and two references will be called. A virtual home visit done. Once approved a meet and greet at the farm will take place. If all are in agreement an adoption contract will be signed and adoption fee paid. Adoption fees for dogs are $500. for adults over 12 months, $600 for puppies 12 months and younger. Fees for seniors, special needs or harder to place dogs will be determined by our Board of Directors. All dogs will be altered when adoption is finalized. This may involve young puppies be given until a certain age to be altered. All animals are up to date on age appropriate core vaccines, negative for parasites, heart worm and lyme tested if 6 months or older, microchipped and have a current health certificate. Proof of a basic obedience course completed is part of our adoption contract within six months. Our descriptions are based on shelter evaluations, input from foster homes and interactions with our volunteers but are in no way a guarantee of temperment. We show animals by appointment only. This is usually done meet outdoors so please dress accordingly. Please email barkingdogfrm@gmail.com with any questions or to arrange a meet and greet.
