Shelter FAQs

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is dedicated to ending animal homelessness and providing care and comfort for companion animals in need. HSTB is a Managed Admission shelter that works to help stop the needless euthanizing of adoptables animals in the Tampa Bay area. We now take owned adoptable dogs and cats by appointment only. We also transfer more than 3,000 dogs and cats from high-euthanasia facilities to our shelter each year. We do not euthanize a dog or cat to make room for another one. SERVICES Pet Adoption Program We provide friendly, healthy companion animals to responsible and prepared pet owners. All pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being made available for adoption. Animal Health Center Low-cost sterilization and affordable, high-quality veterinary care for owned pets is available to the public, seven days a week. Trap/Neuter/Vaccinate/Retrun (TNVR) Program for Feral Cats We provide reduced rates for spaying, neutering and vaccination of ferals and free roaming cats. Contact our TNVR Program at 813.625.0910 or tnvr@humanesocieytampa.org for more information. Information and Referral Service Hundreds of calls to HSTB each month request information about pet care, training or community animal problems. (813) 876-7138. Humane Euthanasia The Humane Society of Tampa Bay provides euthanisia services for owned pets in the Tampa Bay community, whom are either too sick or elderly and deserve a humane release to prevent further suffering. Private cremation services are also available. Please call HSTB for additional information. Food Assistance & Animeals Our Food Assistance Program distributes free pet food to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship at our shelter, six days a week. Animeals provides homebound and senior pet owners with high-quality pet food delivered monthly.
We mainly serve the tri-county area; Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough County. Anyone can use our Animal Health Center, regardless of income.
