Roxana Rescue
Me and a few of my friends are rescue, foster and finally find a home for dogs. We are few and we don’t have a shelter. All our rescued dogs are either currently in the care of our local foster homes or, in the case of those still needing to be flown to Toronto, in a shelter or foster home overseas.
The complete application is required prior to a dog being met in order for us to ensure that the applicant is suitable for the dog being applied for. In addition, our foster parents appreciate that we screen applicants prior to asking them to welcome a stranger into their homes.
Our adoption process is as follows:
1. Completed adoption application received and reviewed.
2. If the application looks suitable for the dog being applied for, a phone interview follows, discussing the application and answering any of the applicant’s questions about the dog and the adoption process
3. Home Visit - our home visits are simply to confirm that the applicants living situation complies with the answers on the application and for us to get to know them.
4. Meet the Dog - this is typically done at their foster home or at a mutually agreed upon location, or, in the case of fostering-to-adopt, meet dog at the airport upon arrival if possible. If not possible, arrangements can be made to bring the dog to the applicant’s home. If the applicant lives in a community several hours drive from the Toronto area, arrangements can be made to fly the dog there at the adopter's expense.
5. A dog in foster care can be met a few times before a decision is made whether or not to adopt them. A dog that will be in the foster-to-adopt program will be cared for in the applicant’s home until they are adopted by the applicant or by someone else.
