The Circle Begins
Circle of Friends Animal Society was founded in January of 2007 by eight friends with a combined eighty years of experience in animal welfare. They had worked in many organizations over the years and wanted to use their knowledge and skills, add all the best practices and most innovative ideas they had discovered, and follow a different path than a typical humane society. They set out to create an organization that would address the multiple concerns of animal welfare with positive, humane solutions.
Our Philosophy
Circle of Friends believes that animals deserve kindness and that being kind to animals brings forth our best human qualities and creates a more compassionate society. We believe that every life is precious and do not put a price tag on that life. If an animal needs an investment of time, money, and effort to have a chance at a happy life, we will not turn that animal away. We believe that educating pet owners and providing services to help them is key to creating a community in which animals are valued and treated with compassion. We do not limit ourselves to helping dogs and cats and will assist any animal, of any species, to the best of our capabilities.

We have foster homes all over!! Some in Greensboro, Athens, and even Lawrenceville. We have had people travel from out of state to adopt our animals and are glad to accommodate when needed. Distance in the GA area does not matter when looking for your new family member.
Additional adoption info
After we receive your application we will review it and discuss it with you. We talk with you about the animal’s energy level, temperament, individual requirements. We also talk about your living situation, expectations, and what you are looking for in a pet. We reserve the right to require a home visit before going ahead with any adoption.
Adoption fees vary based on the age of the cat. Kittens (under a year) are $100, adult cats are $85 and seniors/FIV+ cats are $50. They are all spayed or neutered, UTD on shots, tested/treated for heartworm or FeLV/FIV, de-wormed and on flea prevention.
Once the paperwork has been completed and the animal is considered “ready to go,” you may take him or her home with you! We love to hear about former COFAS animals who have found their forever homes - so do keep in touch!
Please note: From time to time we will have cats at adoption events or listed online that are not considered ready for adoption. They may need medical procedures or additional behavioral training before they are free to go. We feel that in these cases it is beneficial for the animals - they are able to get exposure to potential adopters as well as the socialization experiences that come with meeting lots of people and animals. If you meet a cat at our adoption events but he is not ready to leave our care quite yet, you are welcome to put an application in on him. However, our applications are not considered first-come first-serve; we want the animal to go to the most appropriately matched home as possible. This is not only for the animal’s sake, but to make sure his or her new human family is happy, too!
