Additional adoption info

Our adoption process is set up to ensure success by matching you with the dog that best suits your lifestyle, as well as follow through with consistency to ensure that the dog succeeds in your home and you each become the friend each other are looking for.

SUBMIT A QUESTIONNAIRE:

Our process starts with the submission of our adoption questionnaire. Once we receive an application it can take a minimum of 48 hours to process it.

The application step is an important first step for us to collect your interest and contact information as well as see what dogs we may have a dog that would be a good match for your home.

You can find the questionnaire here: http://www.owar.org/adoption-questionnaire/

PHONE CONTACT:

After processing your application we will then contact you via phone to talk about what you are looking for in a dog as well as what dogs we have that are ready and may work well with you. This also provides us with an opportunity to talk about our process and schedule a "meet and greet" to meet any potential matches.

MEET AND GREETS

Next we meet in person, which provides the opportunity for potential adopters to meet with our training staff. During this meeting we are able to talk further about the adoption process and training, as well as a chance to meet the dog(s) that may fit in your home.

It is important to us that potential adopters are very interested in the dog, and also that the dog is interested in them.

If we have a dog that will work for your situation we will set up several additional meet and greet times to give the dog a chance for the dog and adopters to become comfortable with each other.

Typically, this may be 2 - 4 visits before a dog goes home. Every dog and home is different, so the frequency and number of visits before a dog goes home may be different for each dog and potential owner. It is important to us, to make sure that the dog and potential owners are comfortable with each other to ensure a successful transition.

TAKE HOME CLASS:

When the dog is comfortable and is bonding with the family, it is time for the dog to go home with you! During this visit we have a take home class on what to expect from the dog in the first week and what to do with the dog to ensure a smooth and successful transition. For the take-home class we will bring the dog to your home for a home check.

SIGN OVER AND FOLLOW-UP

Once the dog has spent a minimum of a week in their new home and all is going well, we hold a final class which includes a review, going over any questions the new owner(s) may have, as well as officially signing the dog over to the new owner.

We are committed to our dogs for life. Regardless of how long it has been since a dog is signed over, we encourage owners to call us if there is ever a problem or something more they would like to learn. Whether there is an issue that arises, you would simply like to learn something new, or simply need a review, we are happy to set up a time for you to return.
