Red Collar Rescue - California

Animal rescue in Fremont, CA

Red Collar Rescue is an all volunteer 501 (3)(C) animal welfare charity dedicated to providing rescue services, medical care, foster care, training and adoptive placement to stray and abandoned dogs and cats in Houston and surrounding areas. We adopt our pets to all 50 states and Canada.

Houston is sadly the #2 kill city in the U.S. There are 1.2M stray pets on our streets. The City Pound (“BARC”) often takes in 150-200 pets per day either as strays or owner surrenders. Almost a dozen other area shelters and pounds also take in dozens of homeless pets each day and many do not adopt to the public but transfer only to rescue groups. The number of homeless pets and resulting euthanasias are staggering -- the average "live release rate" from Houston area shelters is only about 35-50%. In addition, RCR works closely with the Houston Police Department on many cruelty case dogs. We are often a last resort for dogs who have faced unimaginable abuse and negligence, only to face euthanasia after being confiscated by the city government. Red Collar Rescue volunteers work tirelessly to save as many as we can, but the Houston area is saturated with so many pets in need of a home and not enough adopters. To put it simply, we encourage out of state adoptions because it helps us save more lives. We hope that you will consider one of our many adoptable pets who are waiting for a second chance at a forever home - wherever it may be!
