Rethink Rescue, a fiscally sponsored 501(c)(3), was created through the partnership of Charlotte’s Way Animal Rescue and Paws 2 Read. Charlotte put it perfectly, “Solidifying and enriching the bond between humans and their companion animals”. Through rescue, spay/neuter, education, innovative programs and community involvement Rethink Rescue aims to bring awareness to the role pets play in our lives and our role in theirs. Rethink Rescue wants to go beyond being a band aid for underlying issues that need to be addressed. Educational programs will encompass the no-kill philosophy, the importance of spay/neuter, and responsible pet ownership. Pet training programs will increase adoption retention rates and increase community involvement. To effect change we must rethink what rescue means large scale, rethink what rescue means when we choose to adopt instead of shop, and rethink the integral role that each of us play in our communities.
We plan to build mutually beneficial partnerships with our rescued animals, letting them guide us in their placement into forever homes. Whether they advance to becoming a Canine Good Citizen, Therapy Dog or Service Dog each pet will enrich the lives of those around him/her. We don’t plan on just being their voice, we strive to cultivate change with them by our side. To let them show others how unconditional support comes full circle when we reach out to help them.
