I started rescue work 15 yrs ago to save the dogs that were at our animal control. 100% of them were euthanized. Now WHCR not only saves our local animal control dogs but surrounding animal control animal in West Central IL, NE MO and SE IA buy reaching out to other larger organizations in more populated areas who are also non for profits, no kills, licensed by their state. We walk the isles at animal control, facilitate and transport these animals out. About 2-3 yrs ago, with resources and expense are what they are, we decided to hold onto a few that we felt we could adopt out directly to generate revenue to help us continue to help save all the others. We try very hard with our policies in place to find the best possible homes for our adoptive animals. We are an all volunteer, foster home based group with 501c3 status and state licensed. I do work fulltime as a vet tech/groomer and have a grooming shop out of my home. I also have 4 children (2 are whom are adopted as my husband and I were foster parents thru the Il dept of children and family services). I also volunteer at my animal control in the general care of the dogs as well as cover for my aco when he is unavailable. Our organization also assumes all financial responsibility for the vetting needs of the animals who might need veterinary care while being held in animal control.
