We are animal lovers and advocates. We are an organization of volunteers that work with a veterinarian in the NYC area to help the community of adoptable stray animals find their forever home.
Why do we ask that you fill out a Pet Adoption Application before you see any of our pets for adoption?
We strive for successful adoptions! The information on this application helps us get to know you and understand your home environment, whether there are other pets in the home, children, etc. These are important factors that help to ensure that every pet we place goes into a home best suited for its needs and your lifestyle.
The application also provides us with a history of your pets or knowledge that you are a first time pet owner. Are your pets’ vaccinations and recommended veterinary care current? Are they taking flea and heartworm preventative? Are they a member of your family, a companion, or a working pet such as a mouser cat? These are all important details that help us understand more about you, what kind of pet guardian you would be and allows us to proceed with the application process. We want to make sure it is a "win-win" situation for both the adopter and the pet!

Additional adoption info
Since we work with a American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited veterinarian, we recommend routine standards of pet health care set forth by AAHA, the largest association of veterinarians and veterinary professionals in the country.
To uphold these standards, we asks you to provide your pet with routine healthy/wellness veterinarian visits (every 6-12 months), vaccinations and stool testing as recommended by your veterinarian and required by law and overall compliance with medical recommendations.
Adoption Policy
Application approval is based on the following terms and conditions:
You are 18 years of age or older.
You will maintain your dog inside the house with or without access to a fenced yard
You will maintain your cat inside the house
If you rent, you must have paid any additional security fees and are willing to pay any additional rent based on your landlords’ policies.
You must have the proper facilities to maintain and contain your pet before placement.
All resident pets need to show past history of compliance with recommended vet care and be current on such veterinary care.
All resident pets are spayed or neutered.
A vet reference and/or vet check may be required.
If this pet does not work out and is not adapting to your home, lifestyle or current animal housemates, you agree to return it to Forever Homes for Strays. The pet may be returned at any time but adoption fees are not refundable.
You will however have the option of trying a different pet at no additional charge and at the discretion of Forever Homes for Strays.
**Please note we do not adopt out any animal that will be given as a gift, released to a research facility or used as a guard or “yard” dog.
