Lizzie's HAND: Helping Abandoned & Neglected Dogs is a one woman rescue dedicated to helping homeless dogs. The journey began in 1998 following the death of my mom, Elizabeth. Within 2 weeks of her death, a little old and grouchy Boston Terrier was curled up by my vehicle as I was leaving work. I was one of the last to leave, heavy rain was about to roll in, and I couldn't leave him there to fend for himself. Once he finally got in my car, we headed home. From that point on, I feel my mom puts dogs in need in my path. We found a home for the little old Boston we named Roscoe, but for years after that, it was really hard to part with the dogs we brought in.
Finally in 2012, we took in a pittie puppy dumped near our home who was bald from mange and sick from secondary skin infections and intestinal parasites. It took a lot to get her healthy, and as much as I loved her, I knew it was BEST for her to find her a loving family where she could be the center of attention and showered with more love than she could ever imagine. After the start she had, she deserved that. It was the most bittersweet moment when I handed her over to her new mom, but knew she would be theirs forever, and they would give her the life I wanted for her. If I kept her, I wouldn't be able to take in another in need.
I have a passion for helping those who cannot speak for or help themselves, and although my heart is big enough for everyone, I have a soft spot for those dogs most deem unlovable or not worth loving...the big heads, the scarred, the overbred saggy mommas. I was one who believed the poison infused by the media into minds of people about pit bull type dogs, but after being around them, I was able to make up my own mind and learn the truth. Every dog is an individual, just like people, and should be evaluated on their own merit.
I am a one woman rescue with a family, a job, and our own pets, so will answer any inquiries as quickly as possible and ask for your patience. I know when you are ready to adopt a new pet, and you are drawn to one, you want things to proceed as quickly as possible, so I will do what I can to make that happen.
Every dog deserves a chance, and I will do whatever I can to help the neglected, abandoned, abused so they may experience the love everyone wants.

Prior to requesting an application, please consider these items:
***ALL of our adoptable dogs have come to
us from an undesirable life of
mistreatment, abuse, or neglect, and
they deserve to live as loved family
members in the home as they have lived
in their foster home. They will not be "an
outside dog".
***To adopt a bully breed looking dog,
adopter must be at least 21 years of age
and own their own home. Obtaining
rental housing which allows bully breeds
is difficult to find, and in the event of a
move, the dog is often surrendered
because of housing policies.
***If you rent your residence, please contact your landlord to
obtain pet policies PRIOR to requesting an adoption
application. Many apartment complexes, property
management companies, or privately owned rentals have
very specific restrictions on pets, even if they are
marketed as a "pet friendly" property.
***ALL residence and references will be
verified, so please make sure you
provide complete and accurate
information on your application. Failure
to do so will result in automatic
disqualification of your application.
Our policies are put in place in the best interests of the dogs so they may live a rich long life in a FOREVER home. If you have read over our policies and are in agreement, we would love for you to please message the page or email us for an adoption application:
