Shelter FAQs

Animal Services patrols the city looking for stray and lost animals, responding to animal complaints and enforcing state and city animal control ordinances. The operation differs from other area municipalities in that it operates its own animal control facility.

Havelock Animal Services will shelter and feed all captured animals for up to five days. There are many benefits of this program, the biggest being that citizens do not have to travel the 28-mile round trip to the county pound in New Bern to claim an animal that has been picked up.

  • 1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
  • 2. Submit Application
  • 3. Take the Pet Home

Additional adoption info

The adoption fee is $20 if you are a current city resident ($15 for the adoption and $5 for the license fee); $30 if you are a non-city resident. If you reside aboard MCAS Cherry Point the adoption fee is $15. Rabies vaccine for pets older than 4mos is $10.
