The Smithtown Animal Control and Adoption Center provides care for lost, stray, and surrendered animals for the residents of Smithtown. Our goal is to reunite lost animals with their owners and find new homes for the unclaimed and relinquished pets.
We also enforce the animal control laws of the township and of the New York State Department of Agriculture. The animal control officers respond to residents' complaints regarding aggressive, stray, injured, barking, or loose dogs and other domestic or wild animals.

Additional adoption info
All potential adopter's are required to fill out a dog or cat adoption application. We require a vet reference and all information on current and deceased pets. Once the application is processed and approved, we take a copy of a photo Id from the adopter and have all our proper paperwork filled out and signed. Adopters receive copies of all paperwork and medical records. All adopted pets are fixed, receive up to date vaccines,
de-worming, flea treatment and are micro-chipped before they leave the shelter :) The Adoption fee for adult cats till the end of December 2014 is free and for kittens the adoption fee is $85.00. The dog adoption fee's vary depending on the size of the dog and if we had to have the dog spayed or neutered. The fee could range from $47.00- $150.00. All dogs are licensed before they leave the shelter.
