VPFP is on a mission to educate the public on the misconceptions that go hand in hand with "pit bulls" we strive to match families with the perfect dog for their lifestyle and activity level to ensure that the adoption is a success for all involved. Pit bulls and mixes account for 58% of dogs in shelters and nearly 2800 are killed every day in the united states. We promote spaying and neutering in the community and encourage our adopters to use their dogs as ambassadors for this misunderstood class of dogs, by going out into the community and making a difference.

Virginia Paws for Pits (VPFP) is a small, non-profit, home based, volunteer rescue program that strives to find loving forever homes for dogs labeled as pit bulls or pit bull mixes. We are a network of foster homes across Virginia and are willing to do out of state adoptions to approved families.
Additional adoption info
Our adoption fees vary from $50-$250 depending on the age of the animal, the amount of care provided, and the duration of their time in our rescue program. You can apply online via our website and we will be in touch with you in 48-72 hours. We do a reference check with your vet to make sure all animals in the home are current on vaccinations and have been spayed/neutered. We verify with landlords that the applicant can have a pet and there are no size or breed restrictions and finally we conduct a home inspection. Once approved there is an additional contract to sign stating that the adopter is taking over responsibility of the dog and that if at ANY time he/she is unable to care for the dog they must be returned to VPFP with ample notification to our board members.
