e are a non-profit dog rescue focused on mixed breed dogs, several of which, may have been labeled pit bulls by others. Our primary locations are in the Madison, Wisconsin area. Our goal is to help as many deserving, adoptable, homeless dogs as possible that have been abandoned but we also know the best dog in the world adopted to an unstable home environment is pointless. So we do not adopt out to under 23 year old adopters, conduct national criminal checks, and other indications of a solid financial, emotional, and stable future. Remember puppies temperament can change at they grow into adults, require more time than adults and with adults "what you see is what you get" so consider an adoptable adult dog. We work extensively with Humane Societies and/or Animal Control Facilities (starting in 2001) in the Upper Midwest to save homeless dogs. We want to place them in homes...........not just any home, but the right home for them, where they will be loved and well cared for. We conduct extensive background checks on all potential adopters. These sweet pets are loved and protected by foster parents in their homes with families until they are adopted. The foster family's get to know the pet and help train them and let prospective adoptive parents know about the pet's personalities. We work hard to find the best homes for the pets because they deserve nothing less.............
Additional adoption info
The Adoption process is designed to help best place dogs with homes that are in the best interest of the dogs and their human companions. Not placing meaningful "dogs best interest" criteria on adopters for any dog can too easily put the dog in charge of the direction of the relationship and it is irresponsible for the dog, the family, and society. The adoption process starts with a prescreen review of an Guardian Application. Making decisions about dog placement in adoptive homes is an "art", not a "science", and there will be times when applications will be denied for various reason(s). This is left to the discretion of the MAPS after reviewing relevant information. MAPS reserves the right to make all decisions regarding placement or final disposition of any rescued dog in its care into a foster or adoptive home. There is absolutely no guarantee, made or implied, that any person or persons requesting to adopt a dog being fostered through MAPS, or posted on MAP's web site, will be granted an adoption. After a successful prescreen, including background checks, the applicant(s) are notified that they can visit the dogs and a time slot is made for the dog and applicant interaction. After the interaction we encourage several days of reflection before adopting a pet to help assure this will be a lifetime commitment of love and quality care for the dog. Next we conduct a home/neighborhood visit to the Guardian Applicant's home. If the home visit proves successful the new mom and/or dad of the dog will sign an Adoption Agreement and share a lifetime of love !
