Blue Ridge Animal Rescue

Animal rescue in Icard, NC

We were founded in 2014 by Mackinzie and Andrew McClure. The McClures have been rescuing dogs a long time, they decided that there was a need for a new rescue in town. Blue Ridge Animal Rescue is an all breed rescue, we specifically rescue pure bred dogs of all sizes. However, we will occasionally rescue a mix breed dog. The more foster homes we have, the more dogs we will be able to rescue. So if you are interested in helping us please contact us.

We are a very small and dedicated group of volunteers from various business backgrounds. We are based out of South Mountain, NC which is between Vale and Icard, NC.

Rescue FAQs

We adopt to all of VA, TN, KY, NC, SC and GA. Unfortunately with the cost of gas on the rise we have had to initiate a delivery charge for locations greater than 100 miles from us. Please email us for details. We do not rescue Pit Bulls outside of NC, however we do rescue Boxers, Mastiffs and Rottweilers out of state when we have room.

Additional adoption info

Effective September 1st BRAR will be charging a transportation fee on all transports that are more than 100 miles from Morganton, NC. The cost will be determined at the time of adoption, depending on the adopters location. Please ask us for more details. This will help us off set the cost of traveling, specifically gas. The adoption fees vary from dog to dog, depending on the costs incurred with their care while in the rescue, the average fee is $250. The adoption fee is designed to cover all medical bills, BRAR does not make a profit on adoptions. We often times loose money. We do this because we want to help the dogs in need. Please see below for more details. You can also contact us at blueridgeanimalrescue@gmail.com with any questions on a specific dog. All of our dogs attend adoption events, please see our "events" section of the web site for details of upcoming events.

If there are multiple application on a particular dog they will be processed in the order which they were received. The dog will not be marked "adoption pending" on any website. Once the applicant is approved they will be notified in the order which they were approved. So it is basically first come first serve. For example you are approved on the 12th but can't get the dog until the 20th, then the only way the dog will be held for you is for you to place a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit on the dog. The deposit is 50% of the adoption fee, if you are unable or unwilling to do this then we will notify the next applicant on the list. Please contact us by email at blueridgeanimalrescue@gmail.com for any questions. Thank you.

The requirements to foster or adopt a dog are exactly the same, other than the location required for fostering. They are listed below, BRAR has the right to change and/or adapt these requirements at any given time without notice. If interested please email us at blueridgeanimalrescue@gmail.com for any questions. If you have any questions or do not understand something please contact us so we can better explain ourselves to you. The only dumb question is the one that was never asked.

You must be 21 to apply. You do not need to own your own home, but if you rent we have to verify with your leasing agency or land lord that you able to adopt/foster. It is your responsibility to verify that you have appropriate renters or home owners insurance and that they do not discriminate against bully breeds. Most insurance companies do, so please verify with your insurance company that they do not. To the best of our knowledge USAA, State Farm and NC Farm Bureau do not discriminate. If you do not have renter's insurance or liability you are required to before we can approve your adoption, it is fairly inexpensive and can be a matter of life or death should your dog have an accidental bit. Renter's insurance usually costs about $100/yr for $100K in liability.
