Emily (Em) Sullivan born March 18, 1990. I knew she he was someone different and amazing from the day I met her; a beautiful red haired girl who had a heart that shined brighter than the sun. She loved everyone and everything (with maybe the exception of worms), and she had a way with kids and animals that was unique and comforting. I feel that’s because like animals and children, she was capable of everlasting and unconditional love. She was born to be a rescuer, always wanting to help every animal that crossed her path. While working at Lucky Stars Kennels a scared lonely Wheaton pup was abandoned there and Em insisted that her family foster for a few days…We all know how that goes....5 years later that pup, Mr. Bailor was still her best friend and a loved member of the Sullivan family. She saved Mr. Bailor, much like she saved me with an unconditional love that can never be replaced. Emily wanted nothing more than to help animals and bring joy to their lives. She dreamed of someday owning a shelter or rescue. Sadly, she passed away unexpectedly on 12/12/13 and I am making it my mission to make her dream come to fruition. Let’s work together to make the dreams of an angel come true.
I believe the best way to honor the memory of the woman I love is to share what she gave to me, which is a lesson in love, humanity, compassion, and service. My ethos to live by is that all living beings are deserving of love, happiness, and security. These basic needs are met at birth, but are often challenging to maintain as we go through life. For many of us who have experienced disappointment from a human connection, the constant, unconditional love of a companion animal can provide spiritual and emotional support that is powerful and life changing. Who but an animal will accept us with all of our imperfections and never judge or waiver in their devotion? Animals are waiting this moment in shelters for humans to rescue them. The truth is that they rescue us as much as we rescue them. Celebrating Emily's code is my mission in life and will be my mission for all eternity.
