National Brussels Griffon Rescue, Inc. - Upper Midwest

Dog rescue in Chicago, IL

National Brussels Griffon Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing Brussels Griffons who have been abandoned, lost, mistreated, or are in need of a new home for other reasons.

Our rescued Griffs are lovingly cared for by a nationwide network of unpaid, devoted volunteers who open their private homes to provide a safe haven for these dogs.

Every adoptable Griff lives with a foster family until we find the perfect forever home that meets their unique needs. There's no set timeline—our priority is ensuring each Griff’s happiness and well-being.

Many of our volunteers juggle full- or part-time jobs, family commitments, and the care of their own pets while also fostering Griffs in need. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through the adoption process.

Rescue FAQs

National Brussels Griffon Rescue, Inc. (NBGR) is a nationwide, foster-based rescue organization dedicated to saving and rehoming Brussels Griffons in need.

Unlike traditional shelters, NBGR does not host public adoption events or maintain a physical facility. Instead, rescued Griffons are cared for in the private homes of our compassionate network of volunteers across the country, ensuring each dog receives individualized attention and love as they await their forever homes.

We remain ready to help, wherever and whenever a Griffon needs us.

National Brussels Griffon Rescue Adoption Process

Adopting a Brussels Griffon through National Brussels Griffon Rescue, Inc. (NBGR) is a thoughtful and deliberate process designed to ensure the best possible match between our rescued Griffs and their forever families.

While the adoption process may take time, we can assure you that the wait is worth it for the right Griff companion!

Complete the Adoption Application

The first step is filling out our adoption application. This vital step allows us to learn more about you and helps us achieve our primary goal: matching rescued Griffs with homes that best fit their needs and the lifestyles of their adoptive families.

Preparation:

Carefully read the FAQs about our adoption process.
Review the rescue dog’s biography thoroughly before applying to ensure compatibility.

Have the following information ready:
1. Contact information for your veterinarian.
2. Two personal references. Preferably not family members.
3. Contact information for your landlord (if applicable).

Access the Application: Foster, adoption, and volunteer applications found on our website.

Before completing the Application:
For additional information read the introduction to the application(s) you are completing before proceeding.

Complete the Application:
Answer all questions completely and honestly. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Submission: After submitting your application:
You will receive an acknowledgment email with a copy of your application attached if it is complete.
If incomplete, you will receive an email indicating the missing information. You can return to your application by signing in with the email and password you used to start it.

Foster Care Network:

NBGR relies on a nationwide network of volunteer foster homes that care for rescued Brussels Griffons until they find their perfect forever homes. These foster families provide love, care, and insight into the needs of each Griff, helping us make the best match.

Adoption Fees:

NBGR, like most rescues, asks for an adoption fee. Adoption fees range between $300 and $800, depending on the dog’s age, health, and emotional condition. Reduced suggested donations may be offered for senior or special needs dogs.

Adoption fees are not tax-deductible, but any amount given beyond the requested fee is tax-deductible under IRS rules.
NBGR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and adoption fees and donations help cover veterinary care and other expenses for the dogs in our program.

Matching Process

Our adoptable Griffs are not placed on a “first come, first serve” basis. Each rescued Griff has unique needs and activity levels, and our foster families work to understand these details intimately.
If your application is not a match for a particular dog, it will remain in our database for future opportunities.

Please note that not all available Griffs are listed on our website, as many are matched with families from previously submitted applications.

Volunteers and Commitment
All NBGR officers, rescue coordinators, and foster families are unpaid volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to rescuing and rehoming Brussels Griffons. Their work is a true labor of love.
Adoption coordinators work diligently to find the best homes for each Rescue. Any abuse directed toward our volunteers will not be tolerated.

Thank you for considering adoption through NBGR. While the journey to adoption may take time, finding the perfect Griff for your family makes it all worthwhile!
