SHAR started out as a Shiba Inu rescue, but over time we have transitioned into an all-breed rescue. While we still love our Shibas we realized we could help so many others. We specialize in rehabilitating puppy mill releases and working with special needs dogs. Most commonly, we get cleft palate puppies, but we have taken everything from swimmer puppies to puppies with heart defects. We make a lifelong commitment to the dogs that from the time they join our care, they will receive the best care and get everything they need. Our motto is Safe. Loved. Furever.

Additional adoption info
Meet and greets are by appointment only, and will only be scheduled with approved adopters.
The first step is to place an application on our website. https://www.safeharboranimalrescue.org/application
Please make sure to call your vet to give them permission to release your records, and call your references to let them know we will be calling.
Applications are not taken on a first-come-first-serve basis. All dogs will be placed in homes that will best suit them. Applications with false information or incorrect details may take longer to address or be denied.
We require that current/previous animals are/were up to date on vaccines, kept on flea/tick/heartworm prevention year-round, and spayed or neutered.
If you are applying from out of state we require that you have a vet reference with current/previous records and you must come get the dog from our facility in person.
As long as all parties feel like the meet and greet has gone well, you will then sign the adoption contract and take the dog home. The adoption fees vary, depending on age, breed, and other factors.
