DOBER, Inc. (Dreaming of Better Endings Rescue)
…because far too many dogs spend their final days in a shelter where they are lonely and afraid, or at the hands of someone who has not given them the life they deserve.
Our goal is to ensure better endings for these dogs, but their journey is far from over when they reach us! This is just the beginning…
DOBER, Inc. (Dreaming of Better Endings Rescue) is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization dedicated to the rescuing and rehoming of canines in need, with a primary focus on Doberman Pinschers. We have a soft spot for seniors and dogs that are misunderstood. We serve the Lehigh Valley, Poconos, and surrounding areas in Pennsylvania and nearby states.
Our organization was founded as a result of the burden on our hearts for the many dogs that never get their chance for a happy ending. Far too many dogs spend their final days in a shelter where they are lonely and afraid or at the hands of someone who has not given them the life they deserve.
Though we dream of better endings, DOBER, Inc. is just the beginning of a new life for the dogs that come into our rescue. Dogs come to us from a variety of situations—some are surrendered directly from their owners, while others are transferred to us from other rescues or from shelters where they may have come in as strays. A large majority of these are “kill shelters” that give dogs a matter of days before they receive a death sentence. Regardless of how they arrive here, each dog is carefully assessed in a home environment so that we can learn as much as possible about them—their likes, dislikes, and special needs, if any. Dogs are provided basic necessities like food, veterinary care, a warm bed to sleep on, toys and exercise to keep them happy, and the companionship of a foster family to keep their hearts content. The dogs are also taught basic commands and manners and will spend time with a trainer, if necessary. Once ready for adoption, DOBER, Inc. will carefully screen interested parties to find the right home for each dog. Our goal is always to find perfect matches so that each dog is placed in a forever home. We believe that every dog deserves to find his or her "happily ever after." Do you?
Some of the services that we provide to homeless dogs and to the community include: providing food and medical care to the dogs in our program, transporting dogs between homes and to/from other rescues or shelters, screening adoption applicants and conducting home visits in order to match dogs with their forever families, public education and community events, and resource referrals.
