Rescue FAQs

CT Herding Dog Rescue (CTHDR)

CT Herding Dog Rescue is dedicated to helping herding breeds in need of being saved from shelters and other situations, and adopted in to permanent homes.

CT Herding Dog Rescue is located in northeast Connecticut. Dogs are fostered on-location for a minimum of two weeks, typically one month. We will help shelters in need in other states and arrange transport to Connecticut to foster care. We have pulled dogs from Kentucky, West Virginia, North and South Carolina, and as far as Texas.

We typically will take Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, German Shepherds, and other herding dog breeds, including mixes.

All dogs that are placed are current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, spayed or neutered, dewormed for internal parasites, on heartworm preventative and flea and tick preventative.

Once they have been evaluated for their own likes and dislikes, we can begin to give them basic obedience training which in most cases will need to be continued in their new home.

CT Herding Dog Rescue is registered with the State of Connecticut.
