Sunshine Chinchillas

Animal rescue in Titusville, FL

We are a small chinchilla rescue located in Central Florida.

I adopted my first pair in 1993, fast forward several years and we started taking in rescue chinchillas to find them homes. I started this site back in 2005 to help people become more aware of the proper care of chinchillas and also to share my experiences with these wonderful creatures.

We do have a small herd of pedigreed, show quality animals. This never crosses over into our rescue efforts.

We take great pride in our work.

Additional adoption info

Our Adoption Process:

• We are a private rescue and do not allow "tours".

• We do not adopt out to anyone under the age of 18 without a parent's consent. The parent(s) will need to contact us to start the adoption process, this ensures that this is a family choice.

• More often than not, we will not know adequate background information to determine an exact age or birthday of the animal. Please remember, chinchillas have live up to 15-20 years; adopting an older animal does not mean you won't have plenty of time left with them.

• Most often we do not know the animals full background or history; we get a general idea sometimes, other times we get no information whatsoever.

• We usually have no prior health background on the animal, this means we do not offer a health guarantee. Therefore, there is no guarantee that any rescue animal does not carry something that could affect any other chinchillas you may own. Please always quarantine any animal you adopt from your current chinchilla(s).

• We always quarantine and do not house owner surrenders/rescue animals in the same room as our herd. We highly encourage new owners to quarantine any new chinchilla from any established chinchilla(s) they already own for at least 30 days to prevent the spread of any unforeseen illnesses.

• We WILL NOT knowingly sell any animal that shows signs of illness or injury for any reason; no exceptions. The health of all of our chinchillas takes precedent.

• I CANNOT guarantee the adopted animal does not bite/bark/spray urine, these are prey animals that can react if mishandled. All of the chinchillas in our care here at the rescue will have different temperaments. Some have been through multiple homes and may be skittish. Chinchillas are a prey animal and are not inclined to act like a cat/dog. This does not mean that they will never seek out their human, but with rescue animals it can take time. Please remember, these chins have been through quite a bit and need time to adjust.

• We do ask for an adoption fee as this helps take care of other rescue animals we receive; this goes straight back into the rescue for the cost of everyday needs (food, dust, hay, toys, vet care, etc.)

• We accept non-refundable $25 or $50 deposits to hold an animal and the remainder must be paid in cash on adoption day. Please see our sale policies regarding payment process: https://www.sunshinechinchillas.com/sales-policy

• We do not buy back any chinchilla(s) that has been adopted from Sunshine Chinchillas. If you need to surrender your chinchilla you adopted, please visit our surrender page here: https://www.sunshinechinchillas.com/surrender-information

• No rescue animal should ever be used for breeding purposes; we will refuse an adoption of an animal to a home with a chinchilla of the opposite sex.
