The Animal Care Society

Animal shelter in Louisville, KY

We are the first no-kill shelter in Louisville Kentucky. Established in 1987, we provide a home-away-from-home atmosphere to our furry guests. We strive to not only place each dog and cat in the most suitable home based on its individual personality and needs but to also help each potential adopter find the dog or cat that best matches what they are looking for while fitting in with their lifestyle. Our dogs and cats stay with us until they are adopted regardless of how long it takes.

Shelter FAQs

We serve the Louisville Kentucky area but talk in dogs and cats from other counties in the state. We also adopt outside of the Louisville area including out-of-state applicants.

Additional adoption info

All adoption fees include the $15 HomeAgain microchip registration fee. Adoption fees for altered canines vary from $175 to $325. Adoption fees for puppies too young to be altered range from $100 to $250. The adopter is also required to purchase a spay/neuter voucher (currently $60). There is an application process (application can be found on the Home Page of our website under the Adopt A Pet tab). We DO call all references and may, at our discretion, require a home visit. Adopters must be 21 years of age. Everyone who lives in the adopter's home (including all dogs if applying to adopt a dog) must visit the shelter before the adoption process can be completed. We never ship or transport our pets nor do we adopt them out as 'surprises.'
