The Boston Terrier and Pug Rescue of Southern Manitoba (BTPRSM) was founded in 2009. We operate as an all-volunteer based group and run strictly on donations. Our volunteers are dedicated to rescuing Pugs, Boston Terriers and their mixes from shelters, breeders and individuals and finding them forever homes. We do not have a physical shelter that you can visit. All of our dogs are fostered in volunteer’s homes until they find their new safe, happy and FOREVER home.
The Boston Terrier and Pug Rescue of Manitoba serves the province of Manitoba. We do not ship our rescues – however, we will consider an out of province adoption if the application is suitable and we are able to find someone in your city/town to conduct a home visit on our behalf, and assuming that should your application be approved, you would drive to Winnipeg to pick the dog up.
Additional adoption info
Please note: BTPRSM requires a completely fenced in area in order to qualify for adoption. Apartment dwellers and condominium owners will also be considered for adoption provided their complex is pet-friendly and they obey local leash laws while outside with the dog.
The first step in adopting a rescued Boston Terrier or Pug is to complete and submit the adoption application that you will find below. You can open the document, choose “Save File” to save it to your computer, complete it and return it to us via email at btprmb@gmail.com.
*If you are an out of province applicant, you may still apply, but we will only consider an out of province adoption if the application is suitable and we are able to find someone in your city/town to conduct a home visit on our behalf. We would also expect that if your application is approved, you would drive to Winnipeg to pick the dog up.*
Once we have received your application, it will be reviewed by one of our volunteers. We evaluate your application to see if you seem like a potential match with the dog you have expressed interest in and if so, we will be in contact with you to schedule the required home visit. Please understand that all rescue activities are on a volunteer basis and we will get to your application as soon as possible. We act in the best interests of the rescued dog – not the potential adopter. Sometimes for various reasons a particular dog would not fit in a particular home.
We do keep applications on file if there is no suitable match at the time your application is received, but if you see a dog that piques your interest, please feel free to contact us about him/her.
After we establish which rescue will fit your home situation we will schedule a home visit. A home visit will be done on every prospective adopter, even those from out of province. We use the home visits to meet the potential adopters and to make certain our rescued dogs will have a safe environment in their new homes. In general, the dog in question would come along on the home visit.
*A home visit is a requirement for adoption. If you do not wish to have a BTPRM volunteer visit your home, please do not apply. It is also important to note that an application and home visit do not create an obligation to adopt for either party. BTPRSM reserves the right to refuse applications at any time and at any point in the process prior to the completion of the Adoption Contract.*
The final step in approving the adoption is checking references, both personal and veterinary. If everything checks and and you decide to proceed with the adoption, you will be asked to sign an Adoption Contract and pay an adoption fee. The adoption fees go into BTPRSM’s medical fund and helps us cover the costs of spaying/neutering, vaccinations, heartworm checks, surgeries, etc.
ALL rescued dogs are spayed/neutered, completely vaccinated and have any medical needs addressed prior to placing them in their new homes. Our adoption fees range from $200 to $450 and special assessment is made for seniors or dogs with serious medical/behavioral issues.
**We thank you for opening your hearts and home to a rescued pet. We appreciate the fact that you are not purchasing your pet from a pet store that sells live animals, since most of those animals come from terrible situations such as a puppy mill.**
