Friends of the Animals Baton Rouge Animal rescue in Baton Rouge, LA

Friends of the Animals in Baton Rouge, LA is a non-profit animal welfare organization working towards our goal of finding loving homes for the homeless dogs and puppies from the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Our mission is to rescue, re-home, or otherwise save as many dogs and puppies as possible from the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Since starting in 2010, FOTA has found forever homes for more than 2000 animals from the EBR Parish shelter and PASS program.

Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (PASS) is a Friends of the Animals program. We work with the public in East Baton Rouge Parish to determine and implement the best solution for them to keep pets from entering the shelter. The program was created to fill in that gap by helping the public find resources to help them keep their pets or pets they have found out of the shelter. PASS offers resources such as pointing people to low cost medical options; help with behavioral resources; advocating on their behalf; lost and found resources or re-homing their pet with ad placement. PASS does not have a facility to house the pet during the re-homing process, nor does PASS have fosters, therefore owners or finders must be able to foster the pet through the re-homing process.

Rescue FAQs

Friends of the Animals, Baton Rouge, is a foster based rescue group. Our dogs are pulled from Companion Animal Alliance in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. All dogs are in foster homes. All will have an examination by our veterinarian, along with vaccinations, heartworm, and fecal worm tests, spayed or neutered, and microchipped before adoption.

Additional adoption info

You must be 21 years of age or older to adopt. We can email you an Adoption Application or you can fill it out in person at The Adoption House or at FOTA sponsored off-site adoption events. There are no refunds on adoptions after 3 days.

We encourage you to bring your whole family, especially your family dog, to meet the dog you wish to adopt. It is important for you to realize that it may take a few days for your new dog and any other dogs in your home to settle in.
We have a trainer to help if you have any questions or issues. It is better to ask a question and initiate any necessary action rather than to allow a problem to continue unchecked. If after a length of time, you feel you must return the dog, we ask that you give us at least three days advance notice as we must have a foster home available in which to place the dog. None of our dogs go back to the shelter.

As our foster dogs live with us, we get to know their personalities and temperaments. We make every effort to find the right match between our dogs and their new families so that it can be a good and rewarding experience for all involved.

The adoption fee is $150 for puppies under 6 months of age and $125 for all dogs over 6 months of age. This includes the following: spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, de-worming, microchipping and heartworm testing.
