In order to decrease the euthansia rate at our shelter, we began marketing our dogs in Colorado and teamed up with volunteers in the Denver area to help us market and find homes and fosters for our homeless dogs. Its been a great success with Paws and Claws achieving a 94% save rate in 2011.

Paws and Claws Humane Society in a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that runs the Animal Shelter in Artesia, NM, a very small, rural city in southeastern NM. In order to do everything we can to make sure that ALL adoptable animals find rescue or homes, we have opened up a Colorado Branch in Littleton, CO to greaty increase the chances of our animals to make it out of the shelter alive! We have a network of foster homes in the Denver metropolitian area that extends from Ft,. Collins to Colorado Springs. Please consider adopting a homeless pet from us and making a difference in the life of a homeless pet. Can't adopt, please ask about becoming a foster parent!!! We have so many wonderful dogs and can't do it without you!!
Additional adoption info
Paws and Claws has an application that we will send to you and ask you to complete. This helps us make sure that we are making the best match possible for both you and the dog...afterall, adopting a dog is a big commitment and we want to do everything we can to help find the perfect match for you. The adoption fee for dogs is $75 to $125. The adoption fee for dogs varies depending on how much money we have had to put into the dog to get it ready for adoption. The adoption fee helps to offset the cost (but seldom ever covers) the spay or neuter, all shots, microchip, heartworm test (if over 6 months of age) and worming. Please email us today for more information on adopting a pet
After we get the applicaiton, we will call you and set up a meeting and hopefully it will go well and the dog can go home with you. We also will do a home visit - again to help make sure that we haven't missed anything and to help the adopter with introduction to other pets and kids as needed. We also can help line up training and continue to support our adopters even after they have adopted a pet from us!! We also consider things like "test runs" and foster to adopt situations so ask us today - we want to find these homeless babies good homes and are flexible about working with you to make it work!
