Beyond Bars Animal Rescue - Virginia

Animal rescue in Greenville, VA

We are a small, Christian based rescue in rural West Tennessee. We believe it is our responsibility to be good stewards of our environment and by doing so, help the needy animals in our area. Unfortunately, the south tends to have an "it's just an animal" kind of attitude most of the time and this means that MANY wonderful companion animals find themselves the victims of neglect, abuse, and abandonment. We strive to rescue and rehome as many of these animals as we can. We maintain approximately 20-25 dogs in our program at any given time (the ones posted here are the ones that are ready to be adopted) and our goal is quality over quantity. We are not saving the MOST dogs of any other rescue but we believe the quality of the pets our adopters are receiving speaks for itself.
We have a "no-kill" policy and only euthanize a dog in our program if there is NO other option available to us (cases of extreme human or other dog aggression or illness/injury that is untreatable and is causing the dog severe pain). We do NOT euthanize an animal for reason of treatable illnesses such as heartworms, mange, etc.
We look forward to many more "saves" in the weeks, months, and years to come and enjoy every chance we get to make a difference. We also consider it our responsibility to educate our community on proper companion animal care, responsible pet ownership, and the positive ramifications of spaying and neutering pets. We have a no-cost weekend summer camp in the works for local children of low income families in our area and look forward to our regularly scheduled talks with our local 4H Club chapters, our service projects with the Boy Scouts, and our other community events.

Rescue FAQs

We are located in Tennessee but strive to send our animals north where citizens are more conscious of animal welfare and proper companion animal care. Our transport company has meeting locations in Wytheville and Greenville, Virginia and anyone is welcome to adopt that doesn't mind driving to one of these locations to meet the transporters.

Additional adoption info

Since we are an out of state rescue, most of our adoptions are done sight-unseen. This being said, we want to make sure that every adopter is 100% comfortable with the dog they are getting and are more than willing to send additional pictures, videos, vet records, etc once an adoption application has been completed and approved. We require an up front adoption application to make sure that the adopter meets our adoption requirements. Please do not take this personally, it is for the safety and well being of the animals that we have put so much time and love into saving. Once an interested individual completes the application, we will do everything in our power to make sure that they are provided with every bit of information we have on the animal including: age, weight, temperament, any ongoing health issues, special needs or requirements, and any fun/quirky personality traits. If an adopter decides that our animal will be the right fit for them, the adoption fee can be paid via pay pal or check by mail (note: check by mail can slow the adoption process because the animal will not be put on transport until payment has cleared). Our adoption fee for dogs is $375 and covers ALL vetting, including: all necessary vaccines (including bordatella), spay or neuter, health screening, heart worm test and guaranteed negative status, and de-worming. It also includes current grooming and transport to his/her new family. Our adoption fee for cats is $225 and includes all appropriate vetting and transport.
