Longhopes has been rescuing donkeys since 1999. Over 500 donkeys have been rehabilitated and rehomed.
We are located on 40 acres east of Denver. We are a non-profit 501(c)3 animal charity.
We strongly believe donkeys need companionship of their own species. We encourage adopters to be active with their donkeys but do not allow our donkeys to be purchased for breeding.
All donkeys are provided basic medical care and training before being made available for adoption. Donkeys who are unsuitable for rehoming are provided permanent sanctuary. All records on the donkeys are made available to the adopter.
Adopters are allowed to return the donkeys to Longhopes if the donkeys become unwanted.
We provide free consultation and education to any donkey owner or prospective owner.
Longhopes is the administrator of a castration, euthanasia and training grant to assist donkey owners.
Longhopes an accredited animal sanctuary by the GFAS.

Additional adoption info
With few exceptions, donkeys musts be adopted in pairs unless the adopter already has a donkey.
Adopters are welcome to visit the Shelter and select their donkeys. An application must be completed and the adopter must provide photos of their equine facilities or allow an on-site inspection by Longhopes.
Normal adoption fees are $600 per pair but may be higher for well trained donkeys. The fee for some donkeys is less. Part or all of the adoption fee is a non-refundable donation.
The adopter must sign a contract which includes a 1 year probationary adoption and requires the donkeys to be returned to Longhopes if the placement is unsuccessful.
