Pit Bull Awareness of Tennessee is an educational advocacy group and pit bull rescue. We are dedicated to the education of the breeds (pit-bull, pit-bull type dogs, American Pit-Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, Bull Mastiff) and the adoption and rescue of these dogs.
PBATN got started one day when Bella, to the left, showed up on my doorstep. I had never owned a pit-bull in my life and never thought I would, as I had been attacked by one earlier. But something about this little baby changed my mind. As I began to tell people about Bella, the looks and comments I got back were disturbing, so I started looking into more about why I was getting these reactions. Yea, I had heard about the stories on the news and had previously been bitten by a pit, but the things I was reading, and forums and sites dedicated to the eradication of pit-bull type dogs broke my heart.
So I began doing research on the history of the breeds and found out the most amazing things, like; they were Americas nanny’s, they fought along side our soldiers in war, they are used as service dogs, and they have an incredible drive to please their parents! There is no need for the way people think about these dogs just because of a few bad owners have given the breeds a bad name! That is why we are here, to change this blind judgment and educate the community.
We also fight for dog rights in the state of Tennessee. We have had a few successful victories across the state in regards to BSL. We have fought to where the law was never passed, made amendments to laws, or got them overturned all together! We don’t believe in Breed Specific Legislation, as this is discriminatory against a set group of dogs, and all dogs have the ability, if raised improperly or abused or neglected, to be vicious. This is why we fight for vicious dog laws that do not allow a decision to be made based on breed.
So we ask you, to stand with us, fight with us, and fight against the blind judgment that plagues this wonderful breed! Look over the site to find ways you can help us!
Additional adoption info
Our Adoption Program is a 4 step process. The first is to fill out the application, then we will go over it as soon as we recieve it.
The 2nd step is a dog visit, to see which dog would work out best with you.
The 3rd step is a home visit with the dog that we felt worked best with you. So we can see the environment they would be going to, to make sure it meets our standards.
The 4th, and final, step is finalizing the application, signing the contract, paying the adoption fee, then us coming back to your house to bring your new baby home.
