Empty Shelter Project

Dog rescue in Manassas, VA

The Empty Shelter Project is a small foster-based animal rescue located in Northern Virginia. We believe that no animal should ever have to deal with the abandonment of being left at an animal shelter, and certainly no animal should ever be euthanized merely because of the lack of space. Every animal shelter should be an empty one. We take in many animals from shelters in danger of being put to sleep and animals on their way to animal shelters.

Rescue FAQs

The Empty Shelter Project serves Northern Virginia and the Fredericksburg area only. Some exceptions are made for out of state.

Additional adoption info

So you've picked out the perfect pet..what do you do next?

1. Fill out an application - our application is available on our website (www.espnova.org/adopt). This is just to allow us to make sure that the pet you're interested in is a good match for your lifestyle and needs. For example, we do not want to place an elderly Chihuahua with someone looking for a running partner.

2. Meet and Greet - After your application gets the o.k. we like to bring the furry friend you're interested in over to your place so you both can get to know each other. We take pride in the fact that very few animals are returned after adoption.

3. Adopt! if everything goes well and you've found the right match, you just simply sign our adoption contract, pay the adoption fee and ride off into the sunset.
