Story
These dogs are being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas or North Central Texas area. NAME: Ellie GENDER: Female (Spayed) AGE: About 1 to 1 1/2 years WEIGHT: About 10 pounds DOGS/CATS: Good with other small dogs and big dogs that like to play gently with small dogs. Unknown with cats CHILDREN: All Adult Home Meet Ellie. She has a sweet soul and is looking for a family who will love her and nurture her as she grows up. In mid-June, CRT got an emergency call from Dallas Animal Services. They had found a very pregnant Mom loose in Dallas. They came in the next morning and she had given birth to two puppies. Moms and puppies are high risk in a shelter (due to animals who come into the shelter with all types of diseases). DAS asked if CRT could help with this family and we rushed over to get them. Ellie was the Mom who was captured and gave birth. She was a loving Mom and did a great job in raising her two puppies (Paula and Stevie). Her puppies have been adopted and now it is Ellie’s turn! Ellie had little to no socialization when we first got her. Who knows how long she had been running in the streets, fighting for survival. Even though Ellie was an innocent puppy herself (probably a little over a year old), she was apprehensive around people. We were so sad to see this as the early puppy years should be happy go lucky! The great news is that Ellie is adjusting well to life. She still has some trust issues with her humans to work thru but she is moving forward and that makes us so happy. We are looking for an experienced family to adopt Ellie that can be patient as she continues to grow and mature into a great companion! Ellie gets along great with the other small dogs in her foster home. She loves to run and wrestle and tumble. Ellie enjoys going into the back yard and running zoomies as well as chasing squirrels. Ellie also loves toys of all kinds. Every day she will get a toy or two out of the toy box and play with them. We love to see the joy she exhibits as she carries the toys around the house. She also is still working thru some inappropriate chewing but that is getting better with time. Ellie is shy when she meets new people. She will likely stay about 2-3 feet away from her new family as she settles in. Ellie wants to be loved, but she is timid. If you try to force it, she will run from you. Ellie will crawl up into her foster parent’s lap at night for some cuddling. She loves to sneak up in bed while her foster Mom naps, and will cuddle closely with her. Ellie does enjoy following her family from room to room so she does not miss any activity. Ellie is super smart. She is potty trained. Ellie has learned to use the doggy door in her foster home. She does well going potty outside as long as her family keeps her on a consistent schedule if no doggie door is in place. She also does great on pee pads but prefers outside. At night, Ellie sleeps in a dog bed in a crate. We have just begun leash training her. Our vet estimates that Ellie is about 1 to 1 1/2 years old. She is young and has a young dog’s energy. Ellie weighs about 10 pounds and is very sturdy. Ellie is tri-color: black, tan with a tiny bit of white. She has adorable floppy ears. Sometimes one or the other is up and really cute. She has the most beautiful brown eyes. The perfect home for Ellie would be one with experienced Chihuahua owners who are willing to be patient as she adjusts. We think she would do best with another dog to learn from. Ellie would do better in a home with a yard. She will alert when she hears strange sounds. The yard needs to be very secure because if she ever escaped she would simply revert back to her previous semi-feral ways. Her behavior as a family pet will take months to years to cement in to place. This sweet girl needs a family whose work schedule is no more than 8 hours away from home, especially in the beginning while she is adjusting. Ellie is also a door darter. A secure wood fence as well as a secure barrier at the front door of her forever home is an absolute must. Her foster mom is very experienced with dogs like Ellie and can be as hands on as needed during her transition to her new home. Ellie is being fostered in the Dallas, Texas area. If she sounds like the new best friend you’ve been looking for, please fill out an application! Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ Ellie is spayed, micro chipped, up-to-date on shots, HW negative and on heartworm prevention. She is ready to join a loving family – could that family be yours? This dos is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $300.00 adoption donation is required. As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met. After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Story
This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas or in the North / Central Texas area. NAME: Alice GENDER: Female (Spayed) AGE: About 5 years old WEIGHT: About 14 pounds DOGS/CATS: Great with other small dogs, Unknown with cats CHILDREN: Recommend all adult home COAT: Long Coat Chihuahua / Papillon mix Meet one our newest foster’s – Alice. Alice has a beautiful long flowing white coat and is looking for her forever home. On November 4th there were several tornadoes that touched down in North Texas. Unfortunately, the animal shelter in Athens (1.5 hours east of Dallas), suffered major damage from one of these tornados. CRT reached out to the shelter to see how they could help. CRT was told there was a female Chihuahua named Alice who had been dropped at the shelter two weeks earlier when her owner died. Already terrified and confused, Alice desperately needed a hero to rescue her. The sounds and aftermath of the tornado only made it worse for sweet Alice. The next day, after the roads were cleared, a CRT volunteer drove down to Athens and scooped up this precious girl. This beautiful girl is so grateful to be safe with CRT. When Alice arrived in her new foster home, she ran non-stop in the backyard. She was so happy to be out of the shelter and into a normal home environment. After a good night’s rest and decompressing from events it was apparent that she had trouble eating. A quick look into her mouth and it was obvious her teeth were in horrible shape and she was in pain. Alice was taken to the vet and was given a full dental. She had a cleaning and polishing and had 6 teeth extracted. She was also given antibotics to combat the raging infection in her mouth. Her missing teeth do not impact her eating or life in any way. And she is definitely feeling better. Alice is a Papillon / Chihuahua Mix and she is gorgeous. She has flowing locks and pointy triangular ears. Alice has a single coat of silky, medium length fur and doesn’t require professional grooming. Normal bathing and brushing twice a week to remove dirt and prevent knotting is all she needs. Her coat is longer on her ears, tail, chest, and the back of her legs. She is a light-to-moderate shedder and isn’t hypoallergenic. Alice’s head is mostly brown with a white stripe down her forehead and white around her muzzle. The rest of her body is white with light speckles of brown. She is striking! Alice is about 5 years old. She weighs about 14 pounds (and we think most of that is her beautiful fur – lol). Alice loves her foster Dad; she took to him right away. He is the one who rescued her from the shelter, and she is so grateful to him. There is an unmistakable bond between Alice and her foster Dad. You can see the delight on her face when he enters the room. Her favorite thing is sitting in the chair with him watching TV. She loves cuddling between his legs in the reclincer. Alice is a little wary when she meets new people and it takes awhile for her to get comfortable. It took about two weeks for Alice to let her foster Mom pet her, and now Alice is comfortable and they are buddies. They go on walks every day. We don’t know her history so we can only speculate where she shy nature comes from. For that reason, we don’t feel Alice should live with children in the home. This girl has been through a lot! Despite her rough beginnings, Alice is a happy girl! Alice is completely potty trained and will use a doggy door when she needs to go outside. She carries at least 10 toys outside and leaves them scattered throughout the yard! During the day she will go out and play with them. She especially likes chasing balls; however, she doesn’t think it’s important to bring them back … lol. There are several other small dogs in her foster home and she enjoys playing with the younger ones. Alice is not a big fan of crates and is anxious and cries inside one. For that reason, Alice sleeps in her own bed and that’s just fine with her. In the morning Alice jumps up on the family bed and greets her foster Mom and Dad. This beautiful girl just wants to be loved. The perfect home for Alice would be one where the parents (or parent) was an experienced owner. We believe Alice may be a little shy in her new home. With a little patience she will make someone a wonderful companion. We are hoping for a loving and nuturing home which will allow this girl to thrive. She is the sweetest girl, and just wants to be cuddled and loved. Alice needs to be adopted into an all adult home (no children). Alice is being fostered in the Dallas, Texas area. If she sounds like the new best friend you’ve been looking for, please fill out an application! Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ Alice is spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. Shelter FAQs

CRT does not warehouse dogs in a shelter. As in most rescue groups, our dogs are cared for in healthy, safe, loving foster home environments. CRT foster parents work very hard to be sure that their foster dog feels safe and loved while working on housetraining, crate training, socialization, etc. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, heartworm tested, fecal tested, microchipped, on heartworm preventative and have all other veterinary needs taken care of (such as heartworm treatment, dentals, luxating patellas, etc.) CRT is known, and has always been known, for taking the injured, infirm and elderly Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. Please consider the adoption of one of these dogs as well. Seniors and special needs dogs make great pets too!
Our dogs are fostered in foster homes in various cities, as Chihuahua Rescue & Transport, Inc. is a national organization.

Additional adoption info

CRT accepts applications, checks references and requires a home visit. An adoption donation is requested. CRT does not have a shelter and all dogs are fostered in the private homes of our volunteers. Once an application is submitted the foster of the dog inquired about will contact the potential adopter to answer any questions about the dog.

Story
Meet Meiling! A Spirited Beauty with a Heart of Gold Say hello to Meiling, a stunning young pup with striking gray-green eyes and a playful, adventurous spirit! Born around December 18, 2023, Meiling has grown up in the loving care of TGPR and is now ready to find her forever home. Meiling is tall, lean, and full of youthful energy. Her gorgeous blue-tinged coat (which can look black in photos) adds to her one-of-a-kind charm. She’s housebroken, crate trained, and knows her basic obedience... smart, social, and eager to please! This lively girl thrives in a home with another playful dog who enjoys chase and rough-and-tumble fun. She’s currently working on learning play boundaries like “space” and “break,” as her bold enthusiasm can sometimes overwhelm shy or nervous pups. Because she’s still in her teenage phase, Meiling needs a patient adopter who can guide her through with consistency and love. She’s best suited for a home with older children (12+) and active humans who understand the needs of a high-energy young dog. If you’re looking for a loyal, intelligent, and fun-loving companion who will keep you on your toes and in your heart, Meiling might just be the one. Learn more and apply to adopt at TGPR.org!

Frankie is a big guy with double dews and a perfectly Pyr-y personality. His coat gets better every day and he is just happy to hang out with you or play with some friends. This is seriously a GREAT dog. Frankie came to us after being attacked by a pack of something. I have never seen so MANY injuries on one dog before. He is such a gentle sweetheart, it doesn't surprise me that he obviously didn't fight back. When he was at the vet, he was walking around to everyone's stations and visiting like he worked there, lol. I could hear them talking about him from the exam room- this is the sweetest boy! Oh I love him, do you want to help, Frankie? Frankie is being fostered with a big happy pack- Frankie is just a happy guyHis foster also rescues cats, and (no surprise) he's great with them too! He has recently learned to sleep on the bed and just lays his big head on foster mom shoulders and falls asleep. He also went to the river recently and LOVED it!
